Hearing voices saying upsetting things.

I've asked about this before but I'm really stuck as to where to turn for help.

DS is 5 and has ASD. He's found the unpredicatbility of Christmas really upsetting and his behaviour has been very pronounced both in his reactions - ie getting upset very easily and the amount of stimming (almost endless). We've done what we can to help him through it, but its been a struggle.

The problem is that he now says that he can hear voices saying upsetting things to him and he's getting upset as he can't work out where they are coming from. He's also started to respond to them which is just very weird.

This has happened once before and then we just thought he was quoting from a film as his echolalia means he uses film quotes to communicate, but this time its very specific what he says is being said and is genuinely upset about it.

This is a new level of worry for me and I can't stop fretting about it. Has anyone out there had the same problem or can offer advice? CAMHS around here is bloody useless and I don't know where else to turn.

My DS was complained of this - and it was just his 'inner voice' that he'd never heard before. ie the same inner voice that you and me have.

The ASD outreach lady managed to explain it to him.

What kind of things is he hearing?

It's quite specific- he has a special interest and the voice tells him that he will never become one and tells him off and says "bad things".

I'm also on a guilt trip today as it's been so stressful since last Friday I'm just happy to be back in work as I don't know how to deal with it. Sad

If it helps, I don't think at 5 it can be schizophrenia.

I think it sounds more like what my DS had - but god knows I was worried at the time.

Do you have any kind of an ASD outreach team? School was able to arrange for DS to talk to someone from it......

my ds during the summer ruined our neighbours brand new car,he scrapped it to hell, our neighbour understandably went nuts!!! ds scraped his name and everything in the car.(omg i still cringe)
when i spoke to ds after i had calmed down,i asked him,why did you do that?
he said the voices in my head told me to do it!!!!!!
honestly....you wouldnt believe how i felt...i thought all sorts,i rang the dr the next day who got the pead to ring me,she was lovely and reassured me that this was "normal" that children do hear voices, its just there thoughts, and sometimes they put it into actions....i was in peices talking to the pead, and she just kept reassuring me that ds is ok,he has adhd and is getting reassesed for as.
i hope that helps you though, xxx

ds complains of words in his head, they don't say bad things to him....I just think they are his inner thoughts.

He saw the ad for scream 4 last year and was distraught, he started to punch himself in the head and kept saying he couldn't put this thought into his bad memory shredder.

I'm feeling a comforted knowing that he's not the only one and it could just be him explaining his inner voice. It really knocks you though as it immediately conjours up thoughs of serious mental illness.

Crazygal - £1800 Shock and all of that worry as well.

They really do put you through the wringer don't they?
