Dr Baird - Newcomen Centre - NHS wait times?

Does anyone know what the NHS wait time for this service is?

Also do they have the skill to diagnose AS/HFA as opposed to a combi of dyspraxia/audio processing disorder/add/sensory processing disorder/anxiety disorder?

Current clinicial listing for DS = "social communication disorder with autistic traits". This was utterly useless for accessing support so I had to go to Tribunal and even there a clear diagnosis would have made life easier.

Current school view = aspbergers + distress at not having his needs met earlier but responds so well to teach lite it's amazing though he's prob dyslexic too lol!

I'm scared to hope that this appointment might be the light at the end of the tunnel DS so desperately needs. Does anyone have advice on what to take with me in terms of notes/reports etc or how the clinic is structured.

I think the team there exists to provide a specialist opinion, i.e they're supposed to have the highest level of expertise.

If you need to know what to take etc., I'd phone the administrator if you have a number. They should be able to tell you where you are on the list and how long you'll need to wait.

I'm sure there'll be someone along with personal experience who can be more specific about what to expect.

Blimey. I didn't think she was seeing anyone anymore?

Guess it must be for more 'complex' cases.

"complex" Star in that this Mum is not yet convinced her son's asd presentation is all down to her crap parenting ; ) (there being family history an all ya know lol)

On a more serious note he regressed at 4 and typical autistic regression is below aged 3, so the profs think it may be summat else. It was a key factor in him not getting a definitive local team diagnosis.

Is her rep "all that & the cat" then?

Seriously DS has seen so many different bods now I'm exhausted and am hoping this isn't just another dead end.

Given the comments above you would seem to be in the right place.
I have just been to Tribunal with a member of the Team and the quality of the diagnoistic work is as good as anything Ive seen anywhere in the country. The value is that it is a true multisensory report. The reports are very strong on the diagnosis but weaker on the provision.
They are a NHS facility and therefore do not produce reports in the same way as private experts but with a bit of work on the report you can get it to where you need to be.
Ask for sight of the draft report first.
