Have any of you sought help from your GP with regards to the emotional stress you suffer and what was the outcome??
I am keen not to have to resort to AD's & would hope for counselling, but don't think it is easily available on NHS.

I have considered going to see a counsellor[sp] but probably wouldn't bother to see the GP, don't think he would take me seriously.

I went to the GP and she told me "that's what women do, we struggle... you'll be fine." Hmm Yep. That was helpful.

Hopefully your GP will be more helpful. GP put DH on ADs, interestingly enough.

yes i went to my gp,and he gave me AD's which helped,i was calmer, but no matter what, the 'problem' was still there,i stayed on them for 2 yrs, then weened myself off them,(against my gp wishes)but i knew i was strong enough to 'tackle' what was thrown at me,im off them 2 yrs now and altho i have bad days and feel i just cant cope anymore,i dont feel like i did then, they certainly got me out of a dark hole, xxx

Nearly all areas have something like this now. Though with the childcare issues, medicines, online cbt or regular GP appointments suit some people better.

I'm quite fond of this website, but there are others.

I found counselling really, really helpful, which was a bit of a surprise as I'd always thought of myself as someone whose mental approach to life's difficulties was pretty much fine. (Apparently that one's called denial Wink)

I once asked about counselling via my HV but she did nothing about it and I didn't persue it. I still think it coukd help me as ever since ds1 was diagnosed I have suffered with slight stutter that I am sure began following panic attacks when he was first diagnosed. Have had AD but eventually decided to just live with it.

I'm in the same place really and I've been going to and fro on whether it's worth bothering but after seeing a GP with my child before xmas (where I think I presented as being in more need of help than him) she sent me through some literature on a parenting course (I know, but it's the thought that counts) and asked me to contact her so I'm planning to go and ask for a referral for therapy (CBT, I hope_

my gp has been amazing and helped me out of a very dark place. I am on anti-ds, a very low dose, but she has said she would refer me for counselling (I just can't face it). The ADs have helped with anxiety and the feeling of being overwhelmed by everything. She also calls to ask if I am ok, and how ds is doing, and I have a regular appointment with her to bring up any worries,

I realise I am very lucky to have her.

Thanks all,you have given me lots to think about.
I have taken AD's about 10 years ago when I suffered bad PND after the birth of my first dd,they helped alot, but I really don't think I am in that dark of a place now IYSWIM.
My dh&dm are great but too close to the situation to offer the help I think I need.
Dd2 has yet to be dx'd&I am finding this hard to deal with too which doesn't helpSad&her starting school has highlighted how 'different' she isSad
I'm just not dealing with it all very well, but have good days&bad days,as I'm sure everyone does.I feel I would benefit from counselling, but not sure how to tackle it with my GP,who is aware of my situation&has been my GP for years.
Will just have to bite the bullet&make an appointment&see what he says.

Of course, you don't necessarily have to be at your lowest-ever point to take a pill for a few months, especially if it helped before.

We wouldn't force ourselves to struggle on without inhalers just because 'i had it before worse, luckily it settled down but is flaring up again because of stress'
