Going to Eurodisney...

.. and we need to know if DS dx AS is likely to enjoy it? We're going in the Easter holidays. He doesn't go on many rides, but loves watching things. He likes constructing things, loves waterplay of any sort and loves waterfalls. I think he might like some of the studios.

Also is it cheaper to go for one of their deals or to get the free carer ticket?

I think a lot will depend on how he is with crowds. Mine found it too crowded and just wanted to leave. If you stay at a disney hotel you get into the parks at 8am, two hours before the general admission. Make the most of that time.

If you can get a ride exit pass, we didn't and regret that now.

Sounds like your ds may like the studio ride and the techy side of things. Hope you have a lovely time.

creatovator · 29/12/2011 21:58

Thanks maddie. We were thinking of staying outside at the Davy Croquet Self Catering due to what he eats, but will look at this again. How does the ride exit pass work?

We went when we just had dd1 and stayed at Santa Fe which was fab lot of selection at buffet breakfast, we got half board meal vouchers but always chose the buffet restaurants to eat in so there was more choice. Also instead of queuing to see characters we booked a meal at lucky nugget saloon with the characters which was well worth it as they got photos taken and autographs etc.
We are also going again at easter hols and staying probably at Santa Fe again and dd2 coming as well so we will prob try and.get exit pass. Also are you flying or Euro?? If flying is recommend taxi at other end that's what we did they were fab on time and got us there with no fuss and much quicker than bus.

creatovator · 30/12/2011 16:15

Chundle that's helpful. We also have dd coming, and want to make sure everything isn't centred on ds needs, so knowing they do buffet restaurants is helpful.

Also good to know about the meal with the characters being worth it.

We will be flying.

How many days would you recommend we visit the park for? We were thinking 2 days and spending a day in Paris.

Chundle · 30/12/2011 16:31

We did 3 nights 4 days with dd1 she has ADHD. However next time we go will prob do just 2 nights 3 days in park as dd2 won't cope with more. The buffet restaurants are def worth it there is a saloon one in downtown Disney that is lovely . We spent a lot of time looking online at individual restaurants and planning exactly where we would eat each evening so it was booked and arranged to save hassle. Hotel will book for you. Then we had snacks in park. Dd2 is very fussy with food but I'm confident she will eat in the buffets there. As another poster said def worth getting up early to go to park two hours early as there is about 6 rides you get on before the public then you can queue for the others before the public get in

maddiemostmerry · 30/12/2011 16:41

We stayed at the Davy Crockett and did have a bufftet meal there. It was very expensive but fairly empty. There was a large choice of food and everyone found something they would eat.
You still get early entry to the park at Davy Crockett. Mine like it as it is relatively quiet compared to the park.

We tried Rainforest Cafe but had to leave due to how crowded it was.

The kids actually preferred to eat at the cabin, we had hotdogs, soup bread etc, they enjoyed that.

creatovator · 30/12/2011 16:42

Great. Will look into it. Quite worried about food as DS generally only eats cheese sandwiches and pizza when out. I don't want him living on cheese and bread for a week. I don't think it's good for him and affects his behaviour, but don't want to have to cope with battles in restaurants. That's why we originally thought of self-catering. Ho Hum! Swings and roundabouts Confused. We've been to Alton Towers and had to spend the first 1 to 2 hours walking around the park with him. It was the same at Lego Land.

We're not sure about the carers ticket either as it would mean we couldn't stay together as a family for rides, but the crowds would make him anxious, so queueing (spelling?) might be a problem.

Maddie just xposted. Didn't realise you still get early entry from Davy Crockett. It's been suggested that you need a car and it takes 15mins to drive to park. Is that about right?

OP posts:
maddiemostmerry · 30/12/2011 16:55

It's only about a five minute drive, so not that bad at all. You will need a car though.
Davy Crockett has some farm animals, a bar, shop, swimming pool. We had a premium lodge which was lovely and clean. There is a porch area to sit out and eat on and a bbq. There is a microwave and hob but no oven.
You collect breakfast in the morning from the end of your group of cabins, sweet rolls, croissants, french stick, jam, butter, nutella, milk, orange juice, coffee and hot choc.

creatovator · 30/12/2011 17:26

Sounds good. Does the shop sell more than basics?

OP posts:
maddiemostmerry · 30/12/2011 17:38

No, not really. Again it is very expensive. As I recall it sells Ham, burgers, bbq stuff bread, salad, some microwave meals, soup, some cereals, bread, milk, crisps and chocolate. It's enough for a few days.

creatovator · 30/12/2011 17:56

Xmas Hmm DS would only eat the bread out of that list. Is there a supermarket nearby?

OP posts:
creatovator · 30/12/2011 17:59

DH has had good idea of explaining to DCs that if we're going to Disneyland they will have to try eating more things. They both agreed Xmas Grin. A great incentive for them to widen their diet!

I took DS last year (then aged 6), it was a bit of a risk as I took him on his own and wasn't sure if he would brave any rides or what he would be like with the dressed up characters (they usually freak him out) but he is disney mad so thought it would be worth a try! He LOVED it. We went on nearly every ride (all the ones he was tall enough for), i was really shocked as he tries to squeeze on the tiny baby rides back home.

I got a pass and it would have been a very different holiday without one. You pick it up the first morning and they do it for the duration of your stay. The waiting times for the rides are crazy and my DS would not have gotten on a single ride without the pass!

I also took his maclaren major which was great in terms of giving him a rest, and a safe place in the crowds.

Pizza Planet is a good option for a relatively cheap meal. It's all you can eat buffet with pizzas, pastas, salads, fruits and desserts and drinks. They have a play area inside there too where DS enjoyed running free and I enjoyed a sit down. Grin

We stayed 3 nights at Santa Fe with a 2 day hopper pass to explore the park and studios. The santa fe is a pleasant walk away from the parks. We had breakfast in the hotel (ds enjoyed bread, cheese and juice), then had meals out. One meal at cafe mickey which was dear for the food but worth it for all the characters (it can be a bit of a scrum meeting the characters around the park and timing it to meet them).

There is a food store at the train station near the entrance of the park and studio but I never went in. I took a few bits in our cases e.g. a bag of apples, a multipack of hula hoops, etc but found we got on fine really and DS is a very picky eater.

boredandrestless · 31/12/2011 15:21

RE: the carer's ticket, it shows on it the amount of people each ride allows on with the pass, some rides where quite generous, others just one carer. If you like I can have a look?

Chundle · 31/12/2011 15:26

Bored if you can have look at carers pass that be great ta also what evidence did you take to get one? We have lots of letters from this year but no diagnosis letter as she doesn't have dx as yet. What do they require?

It's free to get and well worth having IMO, I took DS's DLA letter, could you take one of those?

Chundle · 31/12/2011 16:07

Oh yes I have a dla letter I didn't think they would accept that on its own though but if that's all you took then I shall do same thanks :)

creatovator · 31/12/2011 17:46

Bored and Chundle that's great. Thanks for all the info.

We tried to do some new food at lunchtime and now DS is saying he's not going to Eurodisney, cos he doesn't want to eat the food Sad. We only put a tiny bit of sausage on his plate and he had a roll and cheese. He did lick it which was a good first step and we will persevere, but it sounds like they will have stuff he might eat.

Bored was your dla letter dated in the previous last 3 months?

OP posts:
Chundle · 31/12/2011 17:53

I was just going to ask that creator as it says on Disney website letter dated in last 3 months but then I suppose dla tells you the valid to date on it. I won't have recent doc letter I doubt but will take some old ones as well in case, although hoping will be less busy when we go as thinking bout going Feb now onstead

creatovator · 31/12/2011 18:33

Chundle I thought of Feb, but DH reckons it may be quite cold. We're hoping for warmer weather in April. Fairly sure it won't be as busy in Feb.

OP posts:
boredandrestless · 01/01/2012 09:56

I believe I had one with a slight rate increase at the time that was in date. I also took his orginal award letter and had highlighted the dates from and til that the benefit had been awarded for. Took his orginal dx letter too which wasn't in date at all but clearly stated he was autistic.
