My Aspergers Round Robin

You'll be pleased to hear that this year we didn't accidently maim DS this year while trying to stop him doing something dangerous as we did last year, and while the GPs tried their best with a car door and a momentary lapse of concentration, the A&E file has stayed small.

DS has pleasingly moved on from stroking people and diggers to licking doorhandles and sleeping under the bed. His memory is coming on leaps and bounds and he can now recite the whole of Megamind and delights in doing so to whoever he meets wherever they happen to be at the time.

His foray into tooth-woodcarving is coming on nicely and he has made some beautiful marks on his bed and has customised the full dining set now. We did have to talk to him when he customised the full set of wooden spoons out of the kitchen drawer, but when he has the creative bit between his teeth, what can we do?

While talking of creativity his masterpiece "Half eaten packet of plasticine", thought to be lost, was found down the back of the wardrobe and has now been saved for prosperity and the next trip to see the paediatrician who I am sure will be delighted. DS has also been working on his collection this year and the installation artwork "Pile of Sticks in various stages of decomposition" is the true highlight of the garden, while "Rocks" graces his bedroom with mastery. Its hard to decide which I appreciate more!

Athletically, DS has been coming on leaps and bounds and he can now bounce for many hours on the trampoline whilst singing his own composition "gnnerr gnneer, gnneer" a tonal masterpiece worthy of his open air performances. His sprinting off into the distance is inspirational and we can often be found legging it after him singing our own composition, "Stop, stop, stop come back"

So all in all a good year, I'm sure you'll agree.

Yours,

BarfTheHeraldAngelsHeave

That is fab. Mine would be very very similar. Grin

I often think the whole competitive thing just passes my household by - we live on a slightly different plane of existence where 'nothing broken today' and 'ds didn't lick that particular stranger' are momentous achievements that cannot compare with things like ballet and piano gradings, and fantastical holidays abroad.

FunnysInTheGarden · 22/12/2011 13:31

Grin that's very funny Barf

IndigoBell · 22/12/2011 13:53

:)
Merry Christmas Barf and little barf.

CumpyGruntWithJinglyBellsOn · 22/12/2011 13:56

Thankyou for a huge laugh Xmas Grin

Our round robin would be somewhat similar.

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 22/12/2011 13:59

Grin I just love that. DS has done well this year too. I sometimes forget how well he is doing in my bitterness about how much better he coukd have done if we weren't swimming uphill and against the tide all the time.

In other things it has been a terrible year so looking forward to the start of a new. So, happy new year to everyone.

Xmas Grin That was a brilliant read! What a little champion! Xmas Grin

'ds didn't lick that particular stranger'

Oh, Xmas Grin at that one. We could have comptetitive non-licking!!

When you turn around and say "Ooh we went to soft play today and DS didn't try to hide in someone's coat while they were wearing it!"

I also called up my friend yesterday, proud as punch, as we had guests round and he kept his pants on. Its the small things!

On a more serious note. We only got a diagnosis this year after just thinking that he was 'eccentric' it took School to point out that there was a problem.

Without the support of the SEN boards here I may have gone nuts as I came to terms that children who run off and randomly stroke strangers are not just friendly Blush and most children also need more than 4 hours sleep at night.

So thank you to everyone who has helped me this year. It is very much appreciated.

Xmas Grin Barf if it wasn't for you at times i'd be a bloody mess Thanks

i think competative non-licking could really get popular

i've ricked my neck from that halting jerk of horror when i pass anything shiney in a shop when holding DDs hand Xmas Blush

Chundle · 22/12/2011 15:35

Thanks All Xmas Grin Sometimes you just have to see the humour in things, especially when your DS has eaten your mixing spoons.
