CAHMs--Anyone know anything about Early Intervention Sessions/

I have just had a first appointment with Cahms (DS possibly ASD).

They said they had a long waiting list for their psychiatrist but offered us some Early Intervention sessions. 6-8 sessions apparently.

I did ask what time period these would cover and was told it could be over 8 months. Shock

Does anyone know what this means exactly? I think they will come to my home and to the school but don't know who they are or what is involved.

The person who spoke to us was a bit hard to follow at this point. He started talking about waiting lists and priorities which, of course, I understand but my priority is DS.

Can anyone please shed some light? We ran out of time at this point and were shooed out of the door!

He did say we could get on the waiting list once this was done but that could be eight months away.

I'm not at all sure what this means. Anybody have a clue please?

You need to ring them and ask.
They will know more than us!

Thanks both of you.

Wondering if it's a way to delay a dx appointment and so they keep within their time limits for service set by NHS! Not that I'm paranoid Blush
I would want to know what outcome they are hoping for if it's going to delay you by 16monthd!

lisa, thank you.

I was wondering that myself, whether it's just a way of fobbing me off.

Glad, I'm not the only suspicious one.

In terms of outcome I think they might be able to advise the school on how to manage anxiety (not mine!) and also a kind of information gathering excercise, but we still might then have to ask to go on the list for a diagnosis. By then we will have faffed around for ages!

I suppose I will just have to play it by ear but be prepared to get a bit bolshy if need be.

I would ask, under what reasoning do they say, you can't have treatment and be in waiting list. Call their bluff.

MagicMountain · 20/12/2011 13:05

I think I better had. The person we spoke to at the initial appointment was very clear up until the last 15 minutes when it came to what they could/would do. Then it seemed to get a bit murky (equally paranoid Blush)
