Not unsympathetic surprisingly. I'm just happy to see it being mentioned somewhere mainstream at all. Can't link as on iPhone but if you have the app for the mail Blush as i do it's easy to find.

That's interesting so that would mean it is a possible facet of ASC, although not that common? If I could get that written into ds's diagnosis that would sort an awful lot out. How did you go about getting that Lenin?

Your description of your DS1, is exactly the way I describe ds to others who have involvement with his, I usually get Hmm.

Akae.
My coment was directed at diagnoses in general and not at the diagnosis of PDA in particular.

I am aware of one or two children I know who are or are 'working towards' a diagnosis of PDA. I do not know much about it althoguh i am starting to read about it.

15 years ago I knew of only one or two people with a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome. Now I know many.

akaemmafrost · 18/12/2011 15:27

Thanks I know what you were saying but just grabbed the opportunity to ask someone on the other side how well known PDA is and what the perception was because ds has been treated very unsympathetically. Thanks for replying.

Well I just read the comments and I wish I hadn't Sad. Does make you realise the extent of the prejudice though. Feel a bit sick now actually.

I read some of the comments. Sigh. particularly about it being another way that the workshy can get DLA. Double sigh.

Moondog - Aspergers was only named that in the 80s, before then it was classed under Autism or childhood schizotypal disorder or as similar, which may account for the difference in numbers - same no of people, different name.

Ineedchristmascake · 18/12/2011 18:34

The comments made me feel sick too aka.

People out there are totally and completely clueless about our lives aren't they[she says stating the blinkin obvious]

Dd3 also has little or no currency as leonie said, I have said a few times on this board I dread it when she says "No" to me because I have no way of actually making her do something, now that she is too big to physically move.

I don't know if she has traits of PDA but she is borderline for so many things that she may well haveXmas Sad.

Triggles · 18/12/2011 19:27

I don't ever respond to those comments, much as I'd like to, because there's just no way to convince people like that. They will be firm in their beliefs about it, until they've actually had a child with PDA or ADHD or something similar.

Until then, they will swear blind that it's make-believe. Hmm
