New sensory thing going on

My ds has SPD. The OT assessment in September identified auditory and propreception (sp?) issues as his main problems. Nothing around visual. During the last 2 weeks he's started staring at lights. Its getting worse and now he's spending a large amount of time flicking his eyes between bulbs if he can see more than 1 bare bulb or standing under a light and staring up at the bulb and slowly spinning on the spot. He's also started flicking lightswitches on and off repeatedly whilst staring at the light bulb. Is there anything we can do for this? Should I be calling the OT?

Sorry, although DS has SPD too, lights aren't his thing. The only thing off the top of my head is getting one of those sensory lights that change colour to see if he finds it calming. He might then just wait for it to change colour instead of flicking? I remember someone on here said that John Lewis did them at a reasonable price.
Sorry can't be more help. I hope some of the others with DCs with light flicking tendencies can come along and help.

Hi rebel

Interesting to read your post. My son has just been tested for 22q deletion syndrome and also has various autistic traits(as yet uncomfirmed) , however he has now recently shown an obsessive interest in the street lights outside our house. So much so that he will not function in the mornings before school until he has actually witnessed them being switched off ( resulting in being late for school almost every morning this week!)

Agree with auntevil He too has a projecting light changing lamp in his room which he finds calming and comforting and we have also got him a projector which projects firework type displays for his christmas (just know hes gonna love it)

He also has an obsession with pylons and power cuts. Dont know if there is an answer to this, but I def see a link now

anybody else have experience of this?

I did wonder about one of those light changing balls or something. I saw one whilst out yesterday but it was expensive and I was Christmas shopping and had already spent a lot of money Xmas Grin.

Interesting about the street lamps. That could cause problems as you are so not in control at all!

I've often looked at the projection things and thought about them for ds. We went to a sensory room a couple of months back and he was fascinated by their colour changing bubble column and the light projector.

I think the light bulb was something like this

That looks great auntevil. Not sure where we'd fit it, maybe in the hall. They don't do the right fitting for his room (he's got the most awkward bulb fitting known to man and last time it went we had to get it ordered from the continent and this was just a light we bought in B&Q a few years ago!).
