Going to see ds in the nativity tomorrow. Disaster most likely but....

I don't care because today he asked the TA if he could sing Away in a Manger like the girl who normally sings, standing on the box.

And they let him. Just for then. He sang very quietly with head down, but he sung a solo. I never saw it. Nor will I. But knowing about it has made my Christmas and meeting the angels that enabled it has given me hope for the new year.

Please go see it! I did hide yesterday as I was scared DS may run to me but he sang and danced it was lovely treasured moment :)

oh well done ds!

I remember dd1's first Christmas concert - they let her sing a solo, as she was keen to do so (and in amazingly switched on manner, did not make her stand centre stage, but instead she stood up where she was, with her TA beside her, and sang away, totally oblivious as to whether anyone was watching her or not Grin), and then that snowballed as every child wanted to sing a solo - we were all there about an hour longer than we shoudl have been!

and last year, her then school ambitiously aimed for a nativity play (always a challenge when there are only 3 pupils Grin), which amazingly came off well.

I will probably never see her in another nativity, but I have the moment she said her single line on film, and it gave me (and still does) a huge amount of hope for the future. silly really.

I hope tomorrow goes well for you, and for ds. it will be brilliant, whatever happens, because just getting to the point where it may be possible is such hard work.

aw, that's so cool! Well done to him!

Last year DS2 was only in the hall for about half the time as he couldn't cope with all the people and noise. This year it's not a nativity, but a Christmas carol performance. He loves to sing (has been singing the songs all over the house!), so I'm hoping we'll see some progress this year. If not, oh well, I know he has been singing in the practices, so I'm happy he's enjoying it.

I hope it all goes well tomorrow!

DS did his nativity today too. Have posted on the innkeeper thread. Best part was he kept eye contact with me the whole time, really smiley and happy I was there! And his fab impromptu over excited stimmy flappy shepherd jig mid stage when all the other shepherds had sat down Xmas Grin

coff33pot · 07/12/2011 21:28

DD is a sheep and has her lines rehearsed "baa, baa, baa" her horrible teacher however told me today that she will not sit still on stage and gets distracted and shouts so she will not be in it as she doesn't want DD to embaress herself!!!!!!!! You can imagine I hit the roof and sent strongly worded e-mail to the head. DD will now be a sheep and reasonable adjustments made for her.

blueShark · 08/12/2011 14:25

Giggle well done...a father of a boy with autism from DS s class was so disappointed nit to see his son in the play, I felt so sad for him :( he did say his son was hyperactive and he was not sure if he copes on stage but I'm sure he wouldn't have come all the way to see the other kids

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 08/12/2011 19:40

Well I saw the play and ds was brilliant. Joined in with everything. The one thing I'm trying to decided whether is good or not is that they made him the 'bell ringer' on account of his need to flap.

I was a bit Hmm but also Grin as they had managed to build into the play flapping time for him to de-stress.

Anyway, I got the full story about the solo. Apparently he asked to do it , so the let him sing with the main girl for the rehearsal, but then lots of other girls wanted to do it too, and it became a bit of an issue so they said just the girl.

Awwww great! Grin And good organising and forethinking of the school to include de stress time :) Very brave asking to sing solo too!

That is brilliant, well done tou your ds. DS2 is in reception next year, I may need tissues. DS1's (NT) nativity play went well. The little girl who has ASD and ADHD managed a little bit of time on the stage before it got all too much and one of the TA's took her out. The little boy who has CP managed to do the dance without falling over so it was all good. And of course DS1 was the best cow of them all Grin. I was really excited this time but I think next year I'll just be hoping that ds2 manages to get through the 30 mins without falling over.
