IQ Testing children

Hi

We have been seeing a psychiatrist who has suggested my DS is IQ tested (as he is potentially bright but it doesn't always show up on verbal comprehension tests).

What test would be used on a nearly 6 year old with ASD and how accurate are they?

Dd1 had them done twice. Once at bibic as part of her assessments and another for research. It's intresting. She had had no idea they were even testing her

they used wisc iv on dd2 at 5 (and something else that i can't remember the name of... she has cp. there can be issues depending on how verbal a child is though, so it might be helpful to find an ed psych who is familiar with children with sn if this is a particular concern.

My son had the WISC IV , well half of it as he found it too stressful! Educational psychologist did it with him, he quite enjoyed it till he realised he would have sit still and concentrate for a good 20mins or so Smile

My DS has had BAS with the ed psych. But the psychiatrist from
CAHMS said that their psychologist is a clinical one not an educational one and the test for iq is different. I don't really understand it tbh. I suspect DS won't co operate

Ds was tested using the wisc test ( something like that). It was a version suitable for younger preliterate chidren. We had to give him lots of breaks and it was quicker because of his limited abilty there are more questions for the more able I think. The EP made it fun and encouraging and ds had no idea it was a test. I translated occasionally which is not allowed within the testing stratagy but ds has limited language so we had to use familiar phrases. Ds was nearing 7 but has LD. It was quite illuminating to me to see how he did and what he found easy/ difficult. We did it to have evidence of his learning disability ( not just down to his delayed language skills and behaviour!!) for his statement.
