Went to local school yesterday as dd2 is due to start school in sept. dd1 went there but since she moved to juniors a few years ago, the infant school changed head and senco.

I explained to senco that dd2 has autism, sensory processing and hypo mobility. Also explained we are going for statement. SENCo sat there and gave me this big rant about children with autism and statements arent getting 1-1, and I would be lucky if I got a bit of speech and language. They are closing their social skills group next term, and dd2 isn't likely to get much. I asked what she might get and she told me, social stories and maybe a few social skills sessions "if we feel she needs them"!!!
I am so shocked, she doesn't know my little girl, doesn't know how her autism effects her or even if she's verbal!

It now means I'm going to have 2 kids any completely different sites!

I just met a headteacher too. She was great except that she informed me that she doesn't want any troublesome parents as they take up too much time Grin. She also has concerns about my reputation.

Fair enough.

Lisad, surely the statement will say what she needs, not the senco!?

lisad that sounds horrendous.
Gloria ...I want to know some more about your reputation. Grin You haven't been hassling the poor ickle LEA have you?

coff33pot · 02/12/2011 11:35

Good grief! talk about laying out the negative without even seeing your child!

Why dont they just build a muti storey in each county and chuck all are kids in there so the schools dont have to bother much and I am sure it will be cheaper for the LEA in the long run. Seems to be more and more negative from schools than positive :(

I too wonder about your reputation Gloria Grin

Gloria is a very naughty girl Wink

Its a shame as when dd1 was there, they were ok, although i think that was more her teacher than head, and a lovely senco.

I love it too when people go "ohh yours lisad123" Grin I think mainly as some proffessionals know me in my proffessional role and then get more confused when im ringing as a parent!

I have call the other local school and have appointment with the SENCO to have a look around and chat on monday.
I have schools within walking distance to me, its quite nice to have a choice!

I'm going to have to do this soon as ds2 is starting school in september. Hope one of the other schools is more positive about your dd. Autism is a huge spectrum and people shouldn't make assumptions.

I'm known in another life as Star! And I am indeed a naughty girl. In fact I've just out-performed myself this last three months and made lots of people very cross. Grin

Which is why I think the HT's concern is fair enough. I wrote a brief summary of 'my story' just recently. DH read it and said 'look I know it is all true and actually a very measured version but if I was anyone else reading it I would think you were a raving loon!'
