Autism, putting hands over their ears when excited?

Does anyone elses child do this?

My 4 yr old puts his hands ove rhis ears when a song he loves comes on because he can't take the excitement, then he'll demand that I sing it, and squeel excitedly with his hands over his ears, and actually lash out and scream if I show too much excitement aswell.

My DS used to cover ears when he was anxious or something happened unexpected for eg. Dh picking him at nursery instead of me.

But just met up with someone earlier whose son had his ears covered the whole time because he was exited my 2 DS s were there playing with him.

From retained reflexes point of view that's the not inhibited Moro reflex kicking in. DS does that very rarely now but his Moro has gove from 100 to under 50%.

mamamoonmim my ds does exactly what you described. Especially with singing, but just in general wen he is excited eg. if he sees someone he likes etc.

Sorry, what's the inhibited Moro reflex?

My dd 4.5 does this, and has done this for about a year. Its for a number of reasons, if she is happy or excited, or if she is scared or if she does not want to hear what we are telling her.

I would suggest these are sensory profile issues that can be investigated by a compentent OT who has post graduate training in sensory integration training.

I used to do this...sometimes still do, but not often....at least I don't think so.
