Both DDs schools have said they wont know weather they need to close on weds until that morning!!
I understand why they do it, but its very hard when your children need preparing for everything and i cant prepare them for school or home or even if their teacher will be there if school is open!!

If school is open they should be taught by their normal teacher.

If their teacher is striking it's not legal to get someone else to cover for her.

Very unusual though for school not to give any notice. Although technically teachers don't have to day in advance - they normally do give some notice so that the HT can decide whether or not to open the school.......

We had a letter last week from both schools. The heads are also striking and both schools are closing.

both have come home with a letter stating they hope to be open but cant legally ask the staff so cant be certain.
The other thing is I work on wednesday, and if my kids are off Im not allowed to take them in, so will have to miss work :(

Maybe you can ask their teacher's?

We got a letter home today that DS's school will be shut. He is delighted and I have a 'childcare dilemma headache'. Hmm At least I got some notice I suppose.

I know they don't legally have to confirm they are striking but it's a bit of a poor thin to do to churlishly refuse to confirm or not when it affects so many children and families isn't it! I agree directly asking the individual teacher may be worth a try.

We've had letters saying dd's is closed and ds's is open so will take dd to cinema or bowling I suppose.
In your case I'd decide for myself, book a day's holiday and arrane to spend the day doing something nice with your girls. It's totally unreasonable to inform you at the last minute IMO.

We had a letter today saying school will be partially closed but they cant say which classes will be effected yet!!! Just hope we find out monday so i can prepare DS if his routine is changed.

Still haven't heard from either DS1 and 2's school or from DS3's school. I expect the secondary will be affected, but they seem to open it for Y7s if there are enough teachers, which is good of them, I suppose as they are the youngest and the ones most needing childcare, but DS2 will be beside himself if he has to go in and DS1 gets the day off! My school is striking, we told the parents yesterday. (Unless the government come up with something in the meantime, unlikely.) So I have childcare, but potentially no children to care for. Hmm
