I'm intrested to go but can't get out if my head that someone said she's was never as bad as she says she was as a child.
Might still go and here is info for anyone else

Logically Illogical - information and insight into autism given by Ros Blackburn.

29 Nov 5pm, refreshments from 4.30 – all welcome.
Room N001, de Havilland Campus. AL10 9AB

MORE INFO:
On Tuesday 29th November Ros Blackburn, an adult with autism who is a recognised international speaker, is giving a talk for the second in our series of flagship lectures. It is open to anyone, so do come and bring friends/colleagues/associates and also talk to students about it. Students are being emailed about the session but the more encouragement the better! Ros comes highly recommended. For teachers, student teachers and practitioners, she offers an unique insight into the experience of autism

Lisa - I am exactly the same as you. I remember reading on here from posters who thought she might be embellishing her story.

lisad123 · 22/11/2011 19:29

She makes a huge amount of money from these talks. I think I will go with open mind but do wonder.

I would be very interested to go to this talk but unfortunately its nowhere near me... Would love to make up my own mind about her after seeing her, as TBH i'm quite sceptical after this thread

magso · 22/11/2011 20:13

Thank you Lisa. I would like to hear her talk and it is localish for me.

lisad123 · 22/11/2011 21:28

Oh will see you there Wink

Magso and lisad123 how was the talk? Did she seem genuine?

lisad123 · 24/11/2011 17:24

It's next week Grin

Still hoping to go! I can understand that it is possible to be both very high functioning and severely autistic, but of course I have not heard her speak yet.

Tomorrowslookingfine · 24/11/2011 21:47

Ha lol my bad! Grin

dazeykat · 24/11/2011 23:53

Ros Blackburn, I have heard, does her talks to fund her trampolining obsession. Sounds autistic to me. I think it's unfair to suggest she is not genuine. I'd love to hear her speak.

lisad123 · 25/11/2011 07:09

Have a look at the thread tomorrow linked. I'm not suggesting she isn't autistic, but just concerned that people who knew her as a child have said that she's stretching the truth. I don't know, that's why I'm going. I want to decide for myself.

I was aiming my comment at that thread really. I'd be interested to know what you think after you've heard her for yourself. I haven't heard her speak, but have wanted an opportunity to. I've never come across anyone casting any doubt on her before, but hear her name mentioned a lot by parents & professionals. I'm more curious now.

catherinea1971 · 25/11/2011 08:22

I saw Roz at a talk this time last year, she at the same venue this year again.
I did comment on the previous thread that I felt at times she seemed to contradict what she had said previously. I thought the talk she did was good although afterwards I felt that all was not as it seemed because of the contradictions.
I would go again but would say to anyone going that she is giving her talk on her experiences and her beliefs.
It will be interesting to have feedback from those on here who are off to see her next week.

Sorry Lisad but it looks unlikely I can make it as no one to care for ds and I don't think it sane to take him with me!

lisad123 · 28/11/2011 22:19

I've heard her speak. She is very entertaining. But something didn't ring true for me and then I read the thread linked to above. For example she talks about how severe she was as a child and the difficulties her parents faced and yet went on to say she went to a mainstream BOARDING school for secondary. No severely autistic child would survive in such an environment.

lisad123 · 28/11/2011 23:15

We were talking about boarding schools today but for high functioning kids. Not for my girls but for another little girl.
Will report back Smile

I have to say she was wonderful!!
I want in with open mind and she was great. Gave me a real insight into the world of autism in a way i had never thought possible.
If you get a chance to hear her speak please please go.
She is funny as hell and oh so well spoken.

Did she talk about boarding school/being in nappies?

lisad123 · 03/12/2011 10:42

No but might have done at the start. I found the whole thing so insightful, even with my two being autistic I hadn't considered half of what she said!

Ooh so sad I could not make it! It is so helpful to see things from another autistic persons point of view, to help understand some of my childs ways of doing things.
