Our neighbours complained...........

We have 6 dcs, 4 have autism and 1 is a stroppy teen (but loveable). DS1&2 were awake this morning at 4am (again) and the younger one jumped so loudly on his floor repeatedly that it woke both me and the next door neighbour. We have frequent meltdowns and door slamming because of tantrums. I was mortified and apologised profusely and explained about dcs' autism. I started to cry as I am exhausted too - I feel so bad. Any thoughts?

awwww HUGS x

Did the neighbour accept your apology? she didnt come round at 4am did she!

Perhaps she will be more understanding now she is aware of your DCs issues and make allowances for noise now that she knows the reason why.

If she doesnt and still complains buy her a box chocs and some ear defenders for xmas. Grin

Dont let it get to you, I am surprised I havent been locked up the noise that comes out of this house sometimes, put it all behind for today and have a hot bath and earlyish night x

My two dcs have feet like elephants: pounding up and down the stairs, up and down on the wooden floors, yelling, shrieking, screaming, fighting.

They don't have autism. They're kids - and kids are noisey fullstop.

And yes, neighbours complain. One of my previous neighbours refused to speak to me after telling me my kids made his life hell and declared the banging had loosened his radiators from their mounts (!). I called him Victor Meldrew after that.

We can't all live in remote country farmhouses or vast victorian houses where dcs can be loud and no-one can hear (I wish).

Thank you! It was her husband and she's heavily pregnant with her second. I feel like asking them if they want to trade for a few nights.

It was so awkward though, because every morning it drives me mad, I really don't need anyone else's issues. Having said that I am genuinely sorry that anyone was disturbed by them. Even so, I will defend them to the hilt because they don't understand or even care about the impact they're having.

I think I will have to buy some chocs, for Victor Meldrew and his expectant wife.

And so to sleep.........

dont worry, theyll get revenge soon enough they may ahve a baby that screams all night!
A little box of chocs as an apology should do the trick.

I worry about our next door neighbours too....

DS (ASD and LD) is 'loud', he has no volume switch and DS is physically disabled so sounds like the proverbial herd of elephants moving around upstairs, (with lots of horrendous crashes when he falls at all hours) I ask neighbours if they hear... and they always say no lie through their teeth.
Their kids are teenagers tho, so the house vibrates with their music when the parents are out Grin and i say nothing....
They always get a tin of chocs at christmas... Wink

PS OP love the name, (and yes he does!) Grin

We live next door to students. Thank God they don't seem to notice. However, they rarely stay more than a year so perhaps they do!

I think anyone with a child who can't stop making loud noises at anti-social times, really needs a semi-detached home as much as someone with a physical disability needs mobility aids.

GodKeepsGiving · 22/11/2011 10:30

Thanks Bakelitebelle. We live in a large end terrace which is effectively semi-detached. Unfortunately it makes little difference. A giant barn conversion in an extremely secluded field might suffice Smile
