can anyone help answer my query re continence nurse who seeks to remove DS's pull ups at school when school insists he wear them. He's had more confidence since he started wearing them and fewer behavioural issues, but nurse says he won't progress with problem unless moves on. Caught between medical and educational needs of child.

Could you request a meeting with the school and incontinence nurse? You all need to be on the same page with this really.

I'll find a link where you might find a wider range of pants/pullups that'll keep everyone happy Smile

Here. Good luck!

I'd seek advise from the Consultant first - ours works alongside the Nurse, and has provided us with several types of pull ups/pants. Taking them away from a child who has an obvious need is unkind and won't do anything for their self esteem.
We have fabric pants - but to be honest they don't really take a large volume of liquid, and night-time we use pull ups. My son only has ocasional incontinence linked to muscle weakness and neurological signals not being picked up. At the end of the day, if you don't agree, then don't allow her to bully you into doing it, and take a second opinion.

maybe I'm just getting very cynical but I'd be wary that the nurse was trying to move my child on down to the cost of the pull ups rather than need. You know your child better than anyone, if you don't think he's ready to move on don't be pushed into doing it.

Maybe there is another product that would suit your son? DS is doubly incontinent and used to use pull ups - we used night time pants in the day, due to lack of pull ups in his size, but when the pct changed supplier they no longer did them. Their alternative was stick on pads which he wears in his own pants -snug fitting boxers are best - and they do work. School (special school) like them as they don't have to strip him off to change him.

interesting replies, thanks. i buy the pull ups- they're night time ones due to DS's size. School( small village mainstream) suggested pads but nurse said no- she didn't want anything but ignored her from September this year after year of misery in Reception and did as school asked. started new term with no behavioural issues at all ( although have crept back in last couple weeks) Consultant paed said he saw no reason not to wear them and would not impede progress. nurse meeting SENCO for update next week then likely to be joint meeting thereafter.
Tallwivglasses -can't access link, could you send again please?
