Balance Bike for 4yr old (ASC)

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a specific brand/type of balance bike for DS1 (4.4, ASC (HFA I think!)). He will probably get riding a bike fairly quickly but am thinking a balance bike may be slightly safer at the moment as he won't be able to go as fast?! If his pedalling is anything like his running.....! We are getting DS2 (2, NT) a little bike with no pedals so have to get DS1 something similar so they have one each!

Oooh, I have one and it is a PUKY. I found them great for kids who can't balance.

I was thinking of selling it. f you want to PM me and see if you live anywhere near, you'd be welcome to have a look.

This one was for DS2 and is in lovely condition.

I thought about getting one for DS, he has HFA/AS and Developmental Dyspraxia too and can't ride a bike (or scooter, or trike, or anything with pedals tbh) but he's almost 5 and feels left out when his friend plays on hers. I was worried that I'd buy it and he wont be able to use it. How does your DS get on with his appropriately?

(sorry for the hijack diet Blush)

I had a look on their website, they've got bikes with and without pedals, which do your daughters use lisa?

I find Puky great too! they do them in different sizes. the biggest one is the Puky LR XL. we will actually be getting one for DS1 as he has outgrown the smaller version (ds2 is using it now) but cant ride a proper bike yet.

We have a PUKY too. It is brilliant. My DS has mild cerebral palsy and this was great for him.

We got the medium sized PUKY (after first buying the tiny small one by mistake) but I wish we'd got the biggest one which has a brake. Its a bit scary when DS is going too fast to stop with his feet, the one we've got.

Dd1 learnt to ride with dyspractic group and went straight isla bike. Dd2 has a Isla bike with stablisers, so will take these and pedals off later on

I think they are great and it is great to get the child on them at the time when everyone else is going on bikes with pedals - they just blend in so easily and love being mobile!

The microscooters are also good for that - 2 wheels at the front. DS loved the feeling of freedom on that despite having poor balance.

dietcokegirl · 21/11/2011 20:09

Thanks for replies, like the look of the PUKY one. DS1 has good balance but as we haven't taught him to pedal yet it may be that he can't pedal and balance without stabilisers. So think will get him balance bike before we brave getting a bike as it can only help. It will also be useful for DS2 (2, NT but slightly hypermobile).

Approp I live up North so not sure if you nearby....?
