Confused with 2yo DD's hearing tests results - can anyone advise?

Hello everyone

I've been advised to post here regarding my DD's hearing test results.
To summarise, she is just 2, not speaking at all (not one word), not responding to her name, not pointing very much at all, not waving bye bye. Otherwise everything seems fine communication wise, for instance she will touch my lips if she wants a song, make me understand what she wants ie takes my hand, loves peek a boo and hugs, looks straight in the eyes.

Because she looks at our lips a LOT when we talk and sing, and seems not to understand everything, we were refered to an audiologist to have her hearing checked.

She got the Automated otoacoustic emissions test, same as when she was a newborn, with a probe in her ear checking for vibrations, and she passed the test immdediately. The audiologist also checked inside her ears and didn't see anything wrong in them. It just lasted 5 min from beginning to end....

So they tell me nothing is wrong with her hearing - and I'm very confused (and worried for ASD).

I've been reading here on MN that sometimes these tests miss some unusual hearing losses... Some moms' DC who had passed 2 NHS tests until a private test found out hearing issues later on...

If anyone had advice to give me on this topic I would be VERY grateful.

Thank you

hmm, the aoe only checks the sound is getting as far as the cochlear, it doesn't check how the brain is responding to that sound, so although useful not a definative test. Have a look at the ndcs site there's plently of info on there about the various hearing tests and what everything means, also a parent forum. Did they not try any of the distraction tests, make a noise see if she turns? Do they have any plans to test again any time soon? Sounds like a speech and language referral would be a good idea if you haven't done that already?

Thank you. Yes they tried the musical toys but frankly they were scary for her. They had been quite rough at checking her ears and she got afraid and didn't want to look at them at all... I know she can hear this kind of toys at home.
The audiologist wants to see her again in 6 months but I know he will do just the same...
Def looking into the SALT referal as soon as we can.
