It was amazing and my DD will fit right in, The children there were amazing there they all said hello and introduced themselves and they all seemed so happy and relaxed it wasn't so busy like the MS school DD is in at the moment tbh its a very easy decision! I also met the most inspiring young man I have ever met in my life today in the sixth form class who has two GSCEs and was a spokesman at a talk on the 4th November for parliment and wants to be a member of parliment i was just so proud of him and was highly emotional of his drive and passion. Just to think my lil girl could have GSCEs, i have never thought that - not in a horrible way i just dont want to look to far into the future as she is yet undiagnosed but today i actually did look into her future and it was an amazing feeling i just had to share with you xxx

That's exactly how I felt when I was shown round 10 years ago before my son started his SS.

Now aged 14, it was such the right decision..and he has done so well he is doing some integration with mainstream and may even have a go at maths GSCE ....... I would NEVER have believed that 10 years ago:)

Do you have any other local SS?

I only ask because it might be that you will have to make the case as to why this SS will accommodate your DD rather than any of the others iyswim.

mrsbarden · 16/11/2011 22:29

that is the only one within 5 miles of us the other are in 20 miles and we went to see them but we feel they weren't quite right for DD but yes we need to make the cae for DD so next step is to speak to her MS school to see if they agree if they feel DD would do better in a SS if that makes sense? do you think the mileage matters at all? as in i need to make a case for why should go to one 2 miles away instead of 20?

It depends on you LA and the demand for places I suppose. Did that SS say they have places, and more importantly, is it a council run school?

silverfrog · 16/11/2011 22:36

if there is space, the LA will always want your dd to go to the nearer school. if it is within 2 miles, as you say in your last post, then the LA is not liable for transport costs.

on the other hand, if she is allocated a place t a school over 2 miles away (I think, for primary school) then the LA will have to pay transport costs.

so they will always try to save the money, and go for the closest school.

Really pleased for you :) Sounds like a fantastic school!

happydayyay · 17/11/2011 00:49

Sounds good how old is your dd mines 5 and have just got her a dual placement so in January she will do 3 days sn and 2 ms. The sn school seems really friendly and caring so think its the right decisionSmile
