Standing Frame (Monkey) just been delivered for ds (16 months), feel a bit grim about it...

...it's just sat in the middle of the lounge looking huge and like it's trying desperately to be jolly (cute monkeys! jazzy red pattern!!), but it just looks so incongruous in our house, it is making me feel miserable.

Sorry, just wanted to have a moan, and as usual this is the only place where I can do that sometimes.

Nothing like enforced cheerfulness to make you just go "meh..."

Tis the season to be sodding jolly too innit? Smile

Know the feeling hazey when dd's was delivered by the physio I didn't expect it too upset me as much as it did.
Me & dh were due to go out that night to his mates fancy dress birthday party, and I just couldn't go.Told him to go and that I knew I was being silly(but it had just taken the wind out of my sails IYKWIM)but he insisted on staying at home Smile.
Soon got over it though as I knew it was there to 'help' even though it looked like a torture device,dd didn't mind being strapped into it twice a day which made me feel better!!

I'm glad it's not just me!

I know that it will help him, and he is doing very well at the moment (although he is actually lying on the sofa next to me with a raging temperature all hot and floppy), but it's just a reminder of how much harder everything is.

However, I will save my negativity for here, because everyone around me is always so damned positive!

I have moved it to another room, stuck my tongue out at it and thrown a blanket on top of it.

Felt exactly the same aout ours...DS hates it but is now pulling to stand and crusing furniture but who knows if he will be able to if has another growth spurt so will have to bring out the hideous device again.
Now shall we discuss the Walking Frame...if I thought he AFOS and Lycra gloves draw attention you should see our lovely green walking frame. May as well have one of those hands they have in the supermarket which says "Space Here!!" "Special Needs...come have a gawp!!!"

Right there with ya... wish the annoyance and ager would go away but with each bit of equipment that enters the more annoyed i get!!!

(I find giving it a little kick... just a gentle one helps LOL)

The monkey standing frame is huge as well, so you can't really put it out of sight. The only thing I can think of to cheer you up is try and focus on the benefits that the big standing frame will bring to DS Smile

DDs and her DHs answer to the standing frame, walking frame and hydraulic chair for little DGS cluttering up their family room was to move house with 4 beds and have a therapy room! Not always possible I know but worth the extra mortgage just to not have the CP paraphernalia in their faces all the time Smile

Thankyou all, feel a lot better about the whole thing today, especially as ds's consultant said he could se a huge improvement in ds - yay!

He also got his Piedro boots, which are a lot cuter than the bloody monkey.

Hello Firsttimer, nice to see youSmile

I tried to find the road to diagnosis thread, but it seems to have curled up and died!

I will have another go at finding it, and maybe we could catch up on where we are with tests etc.

dd2 loved hers, and i loved the freedom that the walking frame gave her. she walked all the way along the promenade on holiday on her own (with the frame) and although people were staring at her, she was just so chuffed with herself she was beaming at everyone. so they were all grinning back. Grin i loved it.

in the end we took her standing frame to nursery and left it there though - it was far more helpful and she could stand to do the activities with everyone else.
