DS2 is 8 so none of this disability stuff is new to me, but sitting here reading a report so that i can respond. Has made me feel :(
His adaptive behaviours - extremely low functioning
working memory- extremely poor
Processing speed- extremely poor but unable to fully assess due to his lack of ability to give verbal response or perform clerical tasks & poor fine motor skills.
The most positive reult on any of the tests (& its a 10page report) is low average.
Unable to fully assess IQ

I know the report is honest & accurate but still hard reading. Especially as i know what a happy, little boy he is thriving in a great ms primary with 1to1 support.
I guess i just wont think about the future :)

Remember they are only focusing on the negative as those are the areas you want to change, or help and advice about. My dds SaLT reports didn't really mention the areas she was good in as that wouldn't that useful. You have also only really picked up on the negative aspects of it. Give yourself a week or so and you will have forgotten about the report.

Just a quick story to highlight how we can tend to focus on the negative. I was quite ill so my negativity was heightened and I read a SaLT report and ended up crying because my dds working memory was 0.5 percentile. What I hadn't read and only realised during an annual review meeting when I was asking for more funding for SaLT, was that all her other scores were so high everyone else in the room was actually concerned about her losing her SaLT funding.

Your right daisysue & I'm usually OK with reports, use them if needed, file them if not IYKWIM. But the psych thought it would eb good to identify strengths to build on etc etc & well there wasnt any areas that he is on par with his peers.
I suppose i also shouldn't analyse reports this late at night, always seems worse when tired.
On the plus side the report has helped get a few more specifics added in to his statement. :)
