Hi y'all! I am a teacher and will be having a child with Sturge Weber Syndrome in my class after Christmas. I have been looking on t'internet for any advice as to how I can help him and meet his needs as best as I am able, but there doesn't seem to be anything too specific.
Does anyone have a child with this condition, or has anyone taught a child with this condition? If so, was anything put in place above the IEP targets, etc?

Many thanks x

I'm not familiar with this condition, but there is a UK support group website for families that you might find useful for more info: www.sturgeweber.org.uk/.

I imagine that what you need to consider will depend very much on the individual child's learning and physical issues, so info from the parents/carers/nursery/medical reports will be your best guide.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get some previous reports.

hopefully the senco will have this sort of info? I imagine there would be an ed psych report and possibly SALT report?

Hopefully the parents will know a lot and I'll be very pleased to discuss their child with you.

It will help you if you know what their priorities are......

Good luck. And keep talking with the parents.

Sturge-weber has different effects depending on the site and severity of lesions. This is definitely something to be assessed on a child-by-child basis.

Contact a family - directory of special needs is very good for initial information and to signpost you to relevant site
Try this link
www.cafamily.org.uk/medicalinformation/conditions/azlistings/s63_2.html
The directory is very useful to have in school as it covers so many conditions
