OP posts:
Ben10WasTheSpawnNowWeLoveLego · 13/11/2011 08:33

Ds (6 yo) dyspraxia and probable AS

Lego train set (to do with us)
Secret diary with lock and invisible ink pens (he is a spy don't you know Grin)
Toy Story Action Links to go with another set that he already has (as he likes toys where he just has to press a button and they do things!
Stocking full of sensory type stuff that are mainstream toys still. Like big punch ball balloons, squidgy balls etc

beingarebel · 13/11/2011 16:55

DS (5yo), deaf, SPD, hypersensitive to noise. OT recommended he had an iPod. He certainly won't be getting an iPod but we're going to get him a MP3 player and load some music on to it for him. Also getting one of these for inside controlled bouncing.

coff33pot · 13/11/2011 20:23

DS (6yrs) Nintendo Dsi as old one broke. Moonsand which comes with moulds, diggers and stuff and doesnt dry out. Tub Lego, Geo Mag (magnet sticks), Zoobs (things will interlocking ball joints that make flexible models, Meccano. Cheap Mp3 player that holds more dsongs than the small one he has got.

DS - age 7 asd Rellies help with the list below so it's not all from my pocket!

  1. Refill stuff for his chad valle crazy craft trunk (argos £15 - wicked for NT crafty types too).

Some of this and stuff like pencils is bought by the old dears we know. A packet of crayons is better than chocolates/sweets as he has a dairy allergy so everyone is happy Wink.

  1. http://www.learnandmaster.com/homeschool/guitar/ He's keen to learn guitar but sadly school teacher doesn't use a visual style (she talks at him rather than demos with her own guitar as you'd expect). How you can teach an instrument non-visually has me stumped but she's does. It's the equiv of 2 years of lessons for £100 which sounds a better deal than the £75 a term I'm charged at school + he can take it at his own pace. A retired teacher friend of mine is willing to supplement the e-learning programme a couple of times a month face to face.

I'm keen for him to learn as I've a gut feeling it'll help with his pitch sensitivities in the long run and being a guitar player will give him a social "in" to the cool set for his late teens/early 20's as he'll be able to join a band etc. Also it's fine motor skills innit? He has perfect pitch.

  1. Pokemon or super mario game/s for his DS
  1. Pond dipping kit.
  1. An ant farm
  1. Voucher for snail eating plant from jersey plants direct (last year it was slug eating plants and they do work!)
  1. Argos lego Dr Who stuff
  1. Pyjamas and a new fleece blanket. I'm making the blanket velvet one side and fleece the other.
  1. simple kids electronics/science kit.
  1. Voucher for some "interesting" seeds for his veggie patch from somewhere like realseeds.co.uk (spaggetti squash, purple carrots, whatever catches his eye)

  2. A craft kit or books or something along those lines to do with Vikings/Saxons which will be his school spring term topic to get him engaged at home with the topic.

  3. A nice small sensory light for his area. Argos have a black plasma lamp that might fit the bill.

  4. A terms swimming/akido lessons.

He wants a wii but my budget can't stretch to that this year and lots of the individual items on the list above cost under a tenner so can be bought by friends/family.

Eloise73 · 13/11/2011 23:22

DD (HFA, almost 4, only child so a wee bit spoiled!):

6 doll Disney Fairy set (she's really into the Disney Fairies)
Leappad Explorer (am hoping i'll get my iphone back now!)
Cinderella Costume

and we're taking her to Disneyland Paris in January for 3 days, woo hoo! (That's also kinda for me...)

she'll get more from family/friends and as her birthday is in 2 weeks she'll get a few more things then, mainly a kids cd player with microphone so she can sing to her favourite cd's. November and December are big months for her :)

Becaroooo · 14/11/2011 13:25

Ooohhh eloise let me know how you get on with the explorer...thinking of one for ds2 next year!

Have just been online and ordered a worm farm (for me and him lol) so I know longer have to find worms under his pillow!!!

Also a little science microscope (to observe his dead worm collection) Grin

elliejjtiny · 14/11/2011 22:53

What's the difference between an mp3 player and an ipod? Sorry for being daft. My walkman broke this year so I think it's time for an upgrade.

DS1 and 2 are getting a wooden cooker to replace their plastic one that is falling to bits. I'm being mean and saying that's all they are getting (plus christmas pyjamas) but dh is trying to persuade me to let them have some little bits too. DS3 not sure yet and it's his birthday straight after as well. I'm thinking maybe a fibre optic lamp but not sure.

MincePieFlavouredVoidka · 14/11/2011 22:55

About £50 :o

No I dont know really, I think an Ipod is a bit more fancy than a standard MP3.

coff33pot · 14/11/2011 23:01

Just got Ipod shuffle which are 2GB for £36.99 with Tesco Direct :)

Ipod Nano..............anything from £114 (8GB)to..........................

Ipod Classic? Bank loan Grin

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 14/11/2011 23:09

I've just got a refurbished ipod classic off ebay... you wouldn't know it wasn't new... for £69 30GB ! Not for child with SN but for his older sister who said she was totally happy with second hand, she just need more space for her music!.. worth checking for refurbs:)

My DS2 on the other hand is impossible to buy for.. he never played, he likes to wear(HAS to wear) the same clothes all the time.. so it's replacement identical clothes, and DR who DVDs!

Triggles · 14/11/2011 23:56

DS2 (5yrs) is getting a Nintendo DS (won from a draw on MN, so hooray for MN or we'd have never been able to afford it! Grin), a couple books, new pajamas, possibly a DVD, and a few stocking stuffers. We don't go too nuts at Christmas as he simply gets overwhelmed and overwrought. Plus we don't want to start a trend of tons and tons of presents that we won't be able to keep up with when he is older. Hmm He'll most likely get presents from MIL, SIL, a couple family friends, and his two older siblings. That's more than enough, he'll be completely overwhelmed and exhausted by lunch time on Christmas as it is.

voodoobarbie · 15/11/2011 00:11

ds (7)
Skylanders (thanks to tesco clubcard vouchers0
New disney kinect game
New Zelda
Lego and lego creationary
Electronics set
Books
Airhogs sharpshooter
Rip Rider (hoping he will find it easier to pedal than a bike)

intothewest · 15/11/2011 08:38

I'm a bit stuck- Like MEDUSA's DS, mine doesn't play with toys.

We have boxes full of stuff that just sit there.I try to get stuff out to interest him,but he just isn't.

.......so Dr. Who box set here we come and some books Smile

Chundle · 15/11/2011 09:05

Dd1 adhd a jd bug scooter so she can reek havoc in the street ;) and a secret lockable diary! And moshi monster stuff and some other random bits that's she's obsessed with.

Dd2 under assesment for asd a foldable trampoline that fits under sofa she will love it I can't wait she's a real bounceaholic! Loads of trains to indulge her obsession and the same goes for peppa pig!

MincePieFlavouredVoidka · 15/11/2011 09:41

I am a bit stuck too, which is why I started this thread.

DS is 4 and he doesnt play either. He likes this little mario kart thing he got from town ages ago, and he pushes that along all the surfaces in the house but he isnt fussed with much else, except his bubble timers and he has got loads of those. I have managed to find a couple more that he doesnt have so thats what we have got so far, along with a book talking colours book. Feel a bit rubbish as DS1 and DD have got loads compared to him.

I dont think he will be worried because he got so overwhelmed at Christmas last year he sat in the kitchen by himself and wouldnt come in to open toys at all, so its just me thats worried, but I do feel a bit crappy about his 3 presents.

MincePieFlavouredVoidka · 15/11/2011 09:41

Actually 4, I have got him a gunge timer too.

moosemama · 15/11/2011 10:08

Into and Medusa, we used to have that problem with ds1, he never really played so ended up with piles of dvds and books rather than toys. Its only really the last 2/3 years or so that he's wanted more, mainly games for his ds and computer, lego and collectible things though, rather than things to actually play with.

The Lego Ninjago etc, is stuff he wants to collect, but doesn't really play with - although he will occasionally play with his brother, but only the rule-led battle spinning for points thing rather than an actual game. iyswim. The lego sets are to build and display, never to be touched again and are collectible as well. About the only thing he will play with are his Beyblades, he got into them because they're collectible, but then discovered he likes watching them spin (they're battling spinning top things).

He will play the trading card/top trumps type things with his brother (more rules, facts and numbers) and more recently has been interested in driving the remote control Zibit robots around.

Over the years he has asked for stuff he's seen advertised on the tv and then not even played with it once, so we have to be very selective or its all a complete waste of money. These days he tends to ask for things he can obsess over collect and things that his peers are getting so that he has something to talk to them about at school.

Drives me potty. Every year I spend hours searching the net for obscure collectibles that are impossible to find or ridiculous prices. Half the stuff the manufacturers just change one tiny thing on and then pronounce it a 'special edition' or 'rare' and your collection isn't complete without it. Hmm

That said, recently he has become quite interested in certain board games. I think its come out of the 'teamwork' SEAL group they're doing at school. He's actually asked for a board games compendium (which I forgot to put on my list) and another game called Forbidden Island which you can only complete if you work as a team - now that's going to be interesting! Grin

moosemama · 15/11/2011 10:18

Voidka, have you seen this triple ooze tube?? I'd quite like one of those myself!

Though this two colour timer was funky as well.

Does he watch tv? If so are there any programmes he particularly likes that you could get a dvd of? If so, could he open his dvd first and then watch that while everyone else opens their presents, to keep his stress levels down?

MincePieFlavouredVoidka · 15/11/2011 10:25

He has the second one but the first one is fab, thank you. Will have a look at that site - its not one I have seen before.

He isnt really into TV - the only programme he actually likes is only available on import DVD and I dont think our DVD player will play them. He used to be really into ITNG but he has definitely cooled on that at the moment.

Ben10WasTheSpawnNowWeLoveLego · 15/11/2011 12:18

Over the years he has asked for stuff he's seen advertised on the tv and then not even played with it once, so we have to be very selective or its all a complete waste of money. Yes here too
