Dd2 has 25 hours TA support which is great but I think that time needs to be allocated and set aside for preparing her differentiated curriculum if she is going to make progress. Does anyone have this and how is it worded? At the moment I don't think her teacher is really preparing enough suitable stuff for her and it is left to TA. I know that this takes time as have done it myself for dd when she was following ABA programme. I don't want to have to start doing this all again myself really.

No, but I completely agree with you. Ds2's TAs have no time at all to prepare and his teacher this year has minimal input. When they do the change over in the middle of the week one of them stops off at the other one's house and they plan and liaise then - but that's only because they're super- dedicated, and they shouldnt have to do it anyway. I think its one of the fundamental flaws in inclusion - everything left to TAs but no time ( or money, or training) given to them to do it.

I do pass stuff over to school that I've prepared - I do it in a 'this works for us I wonder if it might be useful to you?' type of way. And we have a termly planning meeting that I'm invited to. But the day to day preparation of materials needs time.

I assume that the LA's thinking behind this is that the funding that goes with the statement is to pay for the TA. Any preparation work to enable the child to access the curriculum is the teacher's responsibility - just something else for them to do in their spare time!!! No wonder so many teachers fail with SN children.

I worked as a TA with a visually impaired child with learning difficulties and she (and her twin sister) both had adaptation time specified in their statements, I think this was mostly due to the VI though.

Thanks. I know the LA will say it's the teacher's responsibility but I do feel it is being left to TA. I accept that it is extra work but feel frustrated that she won't move on because she is not being given suitable work. I have raised the issue before because I know how time consuming it can be, laminating pictures, word cards etc. However last year's techer was more organised and there was perhaps less differentiation required than this year. I agree sphil that this is one of the major issues with inclusion that no one will actually face up to. I may have to start doing some myself but this really annoys me, plus as a teacher myself I have my own lessons resources to prepare!
