hello :)
around 3 weeks ago after filling in our connors 3 report and several assessments we were told our ds has aspects of adhd? or mild adhd......
the pead thought it strange,as i have maybe 2/3 days in a week were i can cope fine with him,and the school too.
they other days hes shows all the signs of adhd,
the pead said, she is sending in another adhd nurse to the school to assess him, this will take place before xmas, not long i know, but i think it will never come round so we know!!
has anyone had this?
should i expect adhd?
the pead said she would be sending me out info on up and coming courses on adhd too,
thank you guys for reading,xx

Hm - I would say no, if your child has ADHD then they have it all the time, not just sometimes. BUT many children with ADHD find it harder to cope in some situations than in others - and thus will exhibit more ADHD behaviours on some occasions and less on others. I would expect some of the behaviours to still be there though, just less difficult.

I think really what you need to be thinking is what is it that makes the "OK" days different? And what triggers him and makes it hard to cope?

well i think the days that are better are the days were we have time and energy to attend his every demand,
the days that are not good he gets up out of bed the wrong side for sure! and i suppose there the days we do to,i dont know to be honest.....
something i need to look at,
i know he never sticks to one task, and when hes started one,he wants to know whats next?and i have days when im thinking ahead of him and days were i say,im having a cuppa now,you have to wait etc,and then hes demanding, angry etc,
i can distract him in seconds, the teacher cant...
i know he has more "still" time at home, and school its hard for him to focus,

i got the last report in the other day from the school assessment,it went on for half an hr,and the nurse wrote in it every few mins,
i counted 22 times my ds was corrected, reminded, told off,and he got 12 praises for listening, out of those 22,it reported that he tried to control one group activity and he shout at anyone that came near them to look at there project,3 people he shouted at,
he handed out the friut perfectly,
and when they had to write on there white boards he did so well, but then threw the board on the floor to wipe it out with his bum,
then on the carpet he moved about alot, going forwards and backwards, told to stop and he did, then minuets later at it again,
they told me that was a good day!!
dear me....poor teacher will be worn out,
what do you think of that? xxx

I think he sounds very wriggly!

The fact that the more attention he gets the less difficult his behaviour seems to be is very familiar. Both my boys are like that - my eldest has huge difficulties with ADHD and Aspergers - my youngest would probably get a diagnosis if I pushed for it, but instead I moved him to a school with a very small class, and he is doing much better there.

It is very hard to say with ADHD, as a lot of it is quite subjective and depends on how much it is affecting your family life and his schooling. So many children have ADHD traits, but with careful managing outgrow the behaviours. Other children - just have ADHD, and will need exactly the same managing but it will have to be ongoing.... It is hard to say what side of the fence your son is on, but I am sure the ADHD nurse will have helpful advice whether or not she feels diagnosis is appropriate.

I don't know. What happens next varies so wildly from area to area. I would imagine that you will have another appointment with the pead to discuss what plans are. You will also need to go into the school and discuss how to proceed with them.

It is sad and scary, but in the end it doesn't change who your child is. It just explains some of the more difficult behaviours and gives you a platform from which to understand why his behaviour is sometimes unusual.

It's more obvious done days than others, but it's always there. Depends what's going on and how interesting it is. Inconsistencies in performance and attention are pretty classic.
