Received a letter today from my council, saying they have received a notification from the Health Authority concerning DS's possible special educational needs.

They need to collect some more medical information to find out more about DS from the health authority and then they will contact me again.

Should I do something? What are they doing? very confused, kind of came out of the blue.

what part of the council? Call em and ask.

I'd flip if the council tax bods were trying to access my son's records, but if it were education or social services I might ring and offer them any private reports I had after getting the "right", (ie we can help you with X) answers on the phone. Does your child have a statement, could it be nursery/school are trying to get him one?

If I didn't like what I heard I'd be down the doctors with a letter saying noone is to have access to my child's file.

The schools, children and family directorate? He doesn't have a statement yet and isn't in any educational establishment, only 2 yrs old.

Just thought they might work with me rather than without me? Also his records are all over the place and a real mess... Will call them on Monday.

Must be the LEA right?

Could they be trying to assess him for a statement without me applying?

They may be trying to sort out if you need portage or an sen nursery place. Sounds like lea - ring em and ask.

Not quite prepared for this yet... I want him to have a shadow at preschool but what happens if they just decide he doesnt need one based on his spurious records? Would I have to take them to tribunal?
