by law you are entitled to a carers assessment, you might have to fight to get one as i had to fight for years, it doesn't matter who your caring for, if you are a full time carer you have to have your needs assessed.

Was it worth doing davidsotherhalf ?

it was worth doing at the begining as i got 1hr a week respite.....then support worker saw dd in meltdown and they said they couldn't cope with dd on 1-1 basis and they reviewed carers assessment and re-worded it saying when 2 support workers where available (knowing they only had 1 for our area) so they couldn't cope but i had to......just depends what you are asking for and what they say you need......worth trying but they might not offer anything....go for it it's your right

Push for it. I had one this year, it was definitely worth it. Got some grab rails going into the bathroom, downstairs loo and shower, an extra bannister on the stairs, a sit stool in the kitchen so that I can teach her to cook.l
I was also asked if there was anything I wanted to do, turns out I may be able to use a private pool up the road for half an hour a week.

No its not correct, a parent is a carer FFS
We get 2 hours DP per week (respite), 3 hours in school hols, a monthly free sitter and the boys go to a sibling grounp which does outings etc
we will also be able to access holiday schemes etc
i know a family who get 10 hours per week
contact a family have a leaflet you can download about social services support i think

Sounds good then dawndonna
agnes that's what i thought but had noone else to ask . this same silly woman read out a letter about my dd's genetic deletion then turned round and said "well , but she does not have a learning disability " Could have happily slapped her but also had none of dd's professional team for back up . Will look on contact a family , thanks x
