so, I realise I have been lucky to get through 7 years of parenting without constant pestering for material goods.

dd1's language and conversation has reached new levels this week - she has realised she can ask for things in the shops Hmm Grin

so, the conversation we have just had went like this:

dd1: do we have jelly and custard, mummy?
me: no, dd1. it's all finished.
dd1: can we buy some?
me: no, not htis week
dd1: custard, mummy. do we have any? with raspberry jelly.
me: no, dd1. all gone.
dd1: what shop do we buy it from? can we buy it in Waitrose?
me: yes, dd1. we can buy custard in Waitrose
dd1: mummy, can we buy some in Waitrose?
me: no.
dd1: mummy....
me: yes, dd1?
dd1: I want to go in the car
me where do you want to go, dd1?
dd1: to Waitrose. to buy custard. do we have any custard?
me: aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhh!

and then we wnet around the whole bloody loop again.

god knows why the sudden custard obsession - she has had it once, a few weeks ago (dd2 made trifle at school in cookery club, and I try to approxiamte for dd1, so she can 'sample' too) and hasn't mentioned it since.

oh for the days when she was silent! (well, not really, but ykwim) - I have the feelign we will be having the custard conversation more than once between now and bedtime...

oh, well done masterleningrad - that is a big step!

It was only a matter of time before she worked out she could ask for things in shops too. but now my stock response of 'all gone' no longer has any power - she used to accept that as fact.

now she either asks of the 'shopping man' (ie the Ocado man!) will bring some, or, as per earlier, she has realised she can pester me for it...

it's a whole new world (and I am not sure I like the sound look of it)

You must be so proud of your dd silverfrog - and just in time for Christmas too! Grin

silverfrog · 02/11/2011 17:38

god, it hadn't even crossed my mind that she might generalise it to asking for presents. not sure I am ready to go there yet Grin

but yes, am very proud - 18 months ago I would never have thought this kind of conversation was possible. she has come on so much, and works so hard to improve. she is a little star.

[grin}

Well done DD1!

silverfrog · 02/11/2011 17:44

you wouldn't want it, Ben10 - she has to have soya custard

now, if she was talking about Ambrosia custard, we'd have been down to the shops in a trice so that I could scoff the remainder after she went to bed Grin

but the soya stuff is foul. I had to eat it (dd2 is also dairy intolerant, so her trifle was made with it) and smile lots.

mind you, I fared better than dh, who was presented with his portion at 7am, as he came in from a transatlantic flight - so had to eat it for breakfast

Well done little frog.

That is brilliant news.

WilsonFrickett · 02/11/2011 19:06

Now, just take it easy with the generalising won't you?

Because you don't want her asking to go to Lidl, do you? Grin

Lovely post, cheered me right up x
