Large training pants - are they worth it?

DS (ASD) seems to have "got it" at last Smile But if we out for the whole day and at night I want something there just in case and generally take the pressure off.

He seems to accept nappy pants and doesn't just think of them as a nappy, but I cant help thinking that actually a training pant would be nicer, cheaper (in the long run) and more discreet.

So looking for recommendations. Seen the ones in page 17 of new fledgling bouchure, anyone tried them? any other good ones? DS is 105cm and something like 24kg

Do you get free nappies?
I'm still buying pull ups for the day as they screwed up and sent nappies instead Hmm
Huggies are pretty good

Although I was offered referral to incontinence nurse, I haven't actually followed it through cos I kept thinking we were nearly there on the potty training (that was over a year ago Grin ) However we do seem to be more or less there very suddenly in the last week (not for pooing). Wine

I like huggies pull-ups, we were out all day thursday and he kept them dry. but I think he'd like something a little more pants like. Also we're off to Disneyland Paris in Feb, by which time I'm hoping he'll be really dry but want back up just in case. I think by then he might really object to nappy pants.

Looking at cost by the time I've paid for a few packs of Huggies I could get a couple of training pants now, I just don't want to waste money on ones that don't work Sad

thing thats really helped with dd2 and poo's is a story about a poo who lost his plop!! Grin and a yachult in the morning.

LunarRose · 29/10/2011 22:18

Grin a poo who lost is plop?!?!? I must see this book, it sounds...umm... is good the right word Confused Grin ?!?!?

TMI moment, Currently he is avoiding pooing altogether or until he's got a nappy on. Mind you is was never quite right on that front previously anyway

Still not going to lose the good mood from apparent sudden success weeing [hgrin]

Blush I knew I shouldn't have just googled the book title...

lisad123 · 29/10/2011 22:23

lol its not a book, but a story our autisim teacher wrote it Grin will ask for hard copy to email over.
the yachult has helped make it less painful and more regular for dd

LunarRose · 29/10/2011 22:28

Grin Darn my pre-emptive google search!!!

yes please that would be super as DS really responds to social story type stuff. Can personal message you my email.

Will try yachult. DS has a osteopath he sees frequently that really helps, but it's still an issue.

I tried those training pants with my son when we were still at accident stage,i found them to be a waste of money really because if he did a pee i still had to change pants, trousers, socks ect so in the end i just used normal underwear.
I think the normal undies helped him in the end because he didnt like having wet legs and he wouldnt have felt that if id have used pull ups.

LunarRose · 29/10/2011 22:48

Ok so no go on the fledglings ones, thanks inneedastrongcoffee Brew

what about these starship ones has anyone tried these?

I starting to think that while he's treating them as pants I ought to stick with Huggies, at least they work.....

coff33pot · 29/10/2011 23:51

How padded are they? if anyone knows that is. Wondered if they might do for night time or would they leak to much.....

I use huggies and they are great BUT I have a feeling DS still thinks they are a nappy iyswim. Saw this post and thought hmm now they look like real pants....

LunarRose · 30/10/2011 14:15

Ok so apparently they hold up to approx 230ml, anyone know the average wee size? Confused

OP posts:
LunarRose · 30/10/2011 19:03

Shameless bump Grin

OP posts:
coff33pot · 30/10/2011 20:45

hmmm I didnt wee in it of course Grin but I reckon its about two wees worth! Grin

I was just wondering although waterproof whether the inside is cloth? If it holds that much but its the leaking I am wondering about for night time as of course they are lying down.

LunarRose · 30/10/2011 20:57

[grins] now I think maybe I should have saved DS last potty of the day to measure in coff33pots jug...

Ok on the inside being cloth thing, I may be being thick but what does this actually mean:
"Boys concealed padded brief with extra gusset to fit additional pad, consist of a inner 100% cotton liner which hides the pad"
Does that mean you need liners as well?!?!?!?

OP posts:
coff33pot · 30/10/2011 21:29

It doesnt explain itself very well does it Confused

Either it holds 230 ml on its own or it is saying you need pads to put in it. Or it means you got the choice of putting in extra pads?

Not sure I would bother if I need to put in more pads. DS would still think it was a nappy that way so I dont think that would solve the problem and stop him weeing. Also if you got to go to the expense of more pads and also the add on of washing it is just as well buy huggies :)

hmmm

starfishmummy · 30/10/2011 22:29

Coff33 Ds sometimes uses a "bottle" for wees and it has a measure on it. Have seen him produce 500ml!!
(he's 13 but about the size of a 9 yo)
He does have a lot of fluids though (medical reasons due to having had renal stones)

LunarRose · 30/10/2011 22:33

Shock Confused

Huggies are starting to look like the best option all round

Wait does anyone know how much fluid huggies hold for comparison?

OP posts:
coff33pot · 30/10/2011 22:58

Well DS uses huggies and I can definately say they hold a LOT!

LunarRose · 31/10/2011 17:49

Ok I think in conclusion I will be sticking with Huggies. Better the devil you know works than one you don't...

Thank you all!!!
