My 9 year old son was on school action plus by year 1, and statemented by year 2, I've been to see a community pedietrition who hasn't a clue on and off for a while, the school have been very supportive with ds1, and his senco advised me to make an appt with cahms through my doctor last term, the appt was yesterday, and after an hour long chat a quick flick through the notes, they have said they are going to diagnose him with ASD, ADHD and DAMP, I am sooo bloody relieved its untrue!! I wasn't expecting the last 2 diagnoses' but I'm sure I can work with it. I have been for 9 years so far!!. Anyway I'd thought I'd post my relief post here [hgrin]

Really glad you have finally got a Dx. My Dd3 was Dx'ed with ASD recently she is also 9. It must e the magic number at the momentGrin.

TBH I think its more noticeable at 9, my ds was impeccably behaved through out the interview and I thought to my self oohhh there going to have to see him a fair few times before they can make a dx, and they seemed to decide there and then, I'm also relieved that its not my parenting skills that have made him behave like this, I also spoke to the senco at ds' school and I told her that ds is worried about going to a special school, and she said I doubt he will he's very intelligent and has a fantastic way of coping with school life so he should be fine, which of course filled me with pride, he really is my special soldier [hgrin].

You are right about the quirks becoming more of an issue as children get older.

My Dd3 was also pretty well behaved when we went to CAMHS although 2 mental health staff noticed that she answered all their questions perfectly but with her back to them and the OT mentioned that she did half of the assessment with a woolly hat on.LOL.

In the end she was DXed using the DISCO assessment which was quite long winded but obviously proved informative for the physchiatrist.

I know the feeling of my parenting being blamed, with Dd1 the pshychologist discharged her without a Dx[also at 9]. He suggested that it was my "Parenting Style" that was causing issues with Dd1's behaviourShock.

I strongly believe she also has ASD but she is now 23 and unlikely to ever get a DX.

Both my Dd's mask their issues very well at school but this does have implications at home. Dd3 is in a new fantastic school now where she is getting support from all around, we are so happyGrin.
