Hi everyone, this is my first time posting on here. I have just moved to the Stockport area and have a 9 year old daughter who has suspected autism.
We will be meeting the camhs team and ados in stockport and was just wondering from other people what it is like there, what to expect, are the people quite friendly etc.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

They are lovely, albeit very slow. We were there this morning. I will post more but about to dash out of the door.

Whereabouts have you moved to?

Hi again betty... glad you have come to join us, we are a friendly bunch with a huge variety of experiences with our kids.

As I said on the other thread my Dd3 is also 9 and has just been dx'ed with ASD, it has taken us 3.5 years to get to this point but our experience of CAMHS[not stockport though] has been a good one although like DCS it has been slow.

Smile.

Betty, CAMHS is based in the Treehouse in Stepping Hill hospital, which unfortunately has had mucho bad press lately due to the alleged killer saline.

However, it's a very welcoming environment, loads of volunteers and parent groups scattered around.

I have found that you do need to keep phoning and knocking on their door, to remind them of your existence...but I guess that's typical of CAMHS anywhere. Apart from an initial intake worker who I felt did not listen at all, I have found the rest of the team to be awesome.

DS had OT there this morning. He has a sensory disorder. He's 8. My sister also works at the Treehouse as a Surestart worker so she'll be another friendly face.

CAMHS in Stockport are, on the whole, great IME. We have been involved with them for many years and they have consistently been the best agency involved with us. My son's psychiatrist is the best professional involved with us and I can't praise her enough. I have found them to be friendly on the whole but, more importantly, they do listen and support the child and the family.

My son had his ADOS there - huge huge waiting list but swift feedback once done.

I know some parents haven't had the same positive experience that I've had but I am quick to complain when things aren't done 'correctly' Wink and I've had no complaints about CAMHS whatsoever!

I have moved to Hazel Grove, was well recommended as a nice area!

I did have my concerns about all the bad press about stepping hill hospital, just not sure what waiting times are like here, from previous exprerience i have found them to be very long and drawn out processes. Was kind of hoping it would be different here

You'll be fine. Our ADOS took about six months after referral and then we had to wait another six months for OT to start.

Get your school on your side, as they can liaise with CAHMS also.

there is a group called pip stockport who you might like to share your experiences with & likewise, they can share experiences with you too. My son has autism & adhd, (autism only diagnosed at 11 after 2nd ados test). If & when you get in try & ask to be seen by Carol Dunn, she is great. from the very start until the Autism diagnosis, it's took us maybe around 7 years. Give me a shout if you need any advice. PS there are hospitals a lot worse that I can think of.
