Hi all - am new on here so am very sorry to start with a moan :( and a long one at that!
DS is 6 years old and has complex special needs which havent been completed identified but he does struggle with inhibition, in terms of movements and decision making / behaviour. He is very easily influenced by others and his communication skills are very delayed so he finds it hard to explain events and conversations.
He's had a difficult week this week, ended up in a&e on monday when after playing with his brother he ended up with a cut on his head. Had to wait in a&e for 3 hours so was very tired on Tuesday, I tried to keep him and his brother off school but got a phone call from school saying can you bring them in when they have had their sleep. Unsurprisingly he has since been spaced out and naughty since then so got called into see teacher after school yesterday. While I was chatting with the teacher my friend was keeping an eye on DS in the playground and when I came out he had been crying and she told me that he had been pushed to the ground by 3 kids who kicked him in the face.
Spoke to school afterwards and again this morning and while his teacher was brilliant the head teacher was clearly trying to blame my ds for being beaten up by 3 other kids. I explained my concerns over his vulnerability the fact that he is not able to explain properly what has happened and that this means if he does find himself being hurt by someone he wouldnt be able to explain this but that also if he responds by hitting back (as would be the standard cultural response round here) he wouldnt be able to explain to anyone why he had done this.
The short version of this is that I am very worried about his vulnerability to influence and harm from others and I am concerned that the head teacher is too quick to judge him without understanding his difficulties and needs. Has anyone got any advice about keeping him safe and making the headteacher understand his challenges and appreciate the efforts he makes?
