saw this advertised today. it's free and you don't need to book. they will lower the volume on the soundtrack and keep the lights on low. if anyone needs to wander around or go out for breaks that will be fine. if it is well supported they will do more autism friendly screenings. for both children and adults with autism.

apologies if everyone knew about this already.

I wish they had something like that around here. Both of my boys love W&G but both find loud noise difficult. Ds2 would also be incapable of sitting down for long.

DinosaurInAManger · 17/12/2005 13:24

That's a brilliant idea! DS1 has been to see it at an ordinayr cinema and managed okay but did find the soundtrack very loud.

misdee · 17/12/2005 14:13

too far for me, dd2 would love it tho.

Mencap do this in my area, although tickets are not free but reduced.

We did see Wallace & Grommit through Mencap, I think it would only really hold the interest of very HF children as it was quite complex and didn't have the in your face Disney touch.

Thats a great idea, what a shame that not all areas have this

Have just seen this.
The Ritzy is part of a chain - Oasis, I think. If it would be of interest in other areas, write to your local cinema! The Ritzy also do mothers and babies screenings of grown-up films in the mornings.

And if the Ritzy do another, what about a meet-up so that us brixton-dwellers could meet some SN-board dwellers?

I was working on organising something like this with DS's Saturday Club. We had narrowed it down to the Tricyle in Kilburn but then the staff at the Club seemed to forget about it and I haven't had time to chase them. I took DS to a special screening on an Inset Day at one of the cinemas in town. One of the parents at school had a contact there. He hated it but it didn't matter and we lasted! He needs more practice but I'm not trekking to Brixton

ImdreadinganAUTIExmas · 21/12/2005 20:03

I'm not brave enough..... and ds1's school take them when they're a little older so I'll wait for them to introduce it first

bossykate · 22/12/2005 10:47

davros - how does he cope with public transport? it would take you less than an hour to get down here by tube. obviously you are the expert on whether it's doable for you.

Actually that's true, Brixton is prob a fairly easy trip for us and I wouldn't rule out driving tbh. I can't see the full info here, am I dumb? Which cinema is it and what date? Will you be our guide BK?

itllbelonelythisdavros · 22/12/2005 16:16

Doh! Its in the thread title Would you belive it, 29th is the one whole day he's got at playscheme after Xmas. Might well have done it. Maybe I'll send them an email to say so and to encourage them. I'll send the info on to other friends too.

bossykate · 22/12/2005 16:37

happy to be your guide and blu also volunteered further down! shame about the date.

Bump - I'll try and find out when the next one is. The Ritzy is about 100m from the tube and overground- would be v happy to meet people, help if necessary, etc....
BK says that it is something organised in partnership with an Autism Society, and only parents and AS children are allowed admission.
