Cross bar for kids wheelchair

Evening all,
I hope someone can help me, I have been googling away and not comng up wit anything. We got DDs wheelchair yesterday an Action 3 and we went out for the first time today. Great for her but rubbish for me. I am in agony! The handles are far too close together to push comfortably. I would like some kind of cross bar so am pushing horizonally and wider than the handles. Surely something like this must already exist or am I going to have to cobble something together.
Thanks

hiya - we have a little contraption on the back of our dd's action plus. It has a head rest attached and then a bar across the middle to make it easier to push - speak to your wheelchair services they should be able to knock something together for you :) If you need pics then let me know xx

I understand what you mean about it being easier to push if the handles run horizontally. DD has a different sort of wheelchair to yours, but because it comes with height adjustable handles (by unscrewing a nut and sliding the handle higher up) it means that we can also turn the handles so they are pointing inwards, which in my opinion gives greater leverage and is much more comfortable to push.
Might be worth asking your wheelchair services if there is anything they can fit.(assuming you got the chair from them).

You can get very good extensions and cross rails. Adjutable ones would be great as you'd only need one set that you could move from chair to chair. Wheelchair centre would be able to advise, if you want to buy your own American websites are excellent - and far cheaper, even shipping included.
Incidentally, I have been in a chair for a long time, and have a couple of regrets I'd like to share - I'm sorry if they don't apply to you.
I was pushed way too much. Pushing yourself (if your child is a bit older) is difficult but after a couple of months you get stronger arm muscles and it's totally worth it in the long run.
Also, my choice of wheelchair was almost always dictated by ease of putting it in the car (folding). A noble cause, but it meant I never looked into ones that would actually be easier for me to self propel or be light, slimmer and more agile. Now an adult, there are some chairs out there that are like part of your body. I can jump without a ramp onto buses, and wheel 10 miles - something I could never have done in a standard folding chair. Rigid chairs are much higher performing, and some models do fold, and the wheels quick release so they don't take up much room.

Like I say, sorry if this is unwanted advice. Hope you get the chair sorted.
