Update on Eidsvold's dd1's saga

Have now got another date for surgery - 25th January. The day dd1 was to start new year at SN kindy - new class but same teacher and the week before she was to start mainstream kindy.

Little disappointed - felt it was important for her to start mainstream kindy with the rest of the kids - don't want to start by being different iyswim.... Probably being silly about this but felt it was important that she started with them all.....

However - now we just have to get this chest cleared and keep her healthy for six weeks.

oh that's hard Eidsvold. HOw long will she be off kindy?

sevensuzyswongsaswimming · 15/12/2005 08:54

I am being very dim, what's the surgery, is it the grommits?

sorry suzy if you look here - long saga

here

it is tonsils and adenoids out - due to them being huge and causing lots of issues.... most owrrying - sleep apnoea.

According to their info - if the surgery goes well with no hiccups - she has to stay away from other children for 14 days - and be kept quiet ...... and monitored in case of bleeding etc.....

Best case - she misses possibly three weeks of sn kindy and one - two weeks of mainstream kindy. Hard as she has spent the last week asking for her sn kindy teacher

What a bummer!! (mind you, its my birthday on that day everyone ) You must be torn about the whole thing. I know I'd be tempted to try to put it off but its probably best to get it over with, esp with the sleep apnoea (sp?). So annoying you couldn't have it all done by now as planned Would they give her ABs right UP to the op date this time? I can't see why there would be a gap, unless I'm being thick and have misunderstood that.

i think the GP felt that the cough wasn't really an issue and it is hard to tell with dd1 sometimes with her tonsils etc being so large - often the noise is a lot of upper airway noise rather than chesty - so we blasted her the ABs for a week to see if it made a difference and to try and have her fit for surgery.....

Have written a letter to the hospital CEO to ask for procedural information, to ask that they refer to dd1 as dd1 the little girl who has down syndrome and will see what reply I get.

At this stage Davros we have ab's prescribed for two weeks or so and the GP wants to see dd1 next week.

My thinking too was if there were complications - which seem to be the norm for us rather than exception - at least she had 6 weeks to recover....... before it impacted on swimming, therapy, and kindy.

What about steroids to clear the lungs too? They are like magic but they do cause huge increase in apetite and grumpiness (I know, I take them myself ).
Absolutely outrageous that they called her the DS girl from England..... unbelieveable

OhlittletownofEIDSVOLD · 15/12/2005 20:36

yes Davros - don't know which to me more offended about the ds or the England part

We do have some steroid here that we are to use when she looks like having a bout of croup. Might ask at the pre-op appointment whether to use that for the week before... would not like to use it for 6 weeks.
