Semantic Pragmatic Disorder

Hello,

My son age 5 has been diagnosed with SPD. I have read what I can find about this on the internet but there isn't a lot.

If anyone has had any experience with this I would appreciate some input. I would also love to hear from someone who has an older child with this disorder. Will he outgrow it or at least improve enough to function well at school without support?

I am seeing signs of this in my 3 year old daughter as well who is to see SALT next week. I also have an 8 month old baby. Right now I am in panic mode and don't know where to turn. Due to DH's job we are about 3500 miles from friends and family.

If you have read this far thank you!!

My son has a dx of SPD. He is 9 and started at special school in September. He has specific learning difficulties as well as SPD.

this was the very first site I ever went to when we realised that Ds2 had problems check it out its a brilliant source of info and support.

Hello and thank you for your reply!

I think its a bit difficult to tell if a kid with SPD has learning difficulties or not. The SENCO said that DS age 5 doesn't have any learning problems but sometimes I worry about him. He is in mainstream school with support and is doing average work with reading and spelling, writing is becoming legible now. I suppose that is good considering that he is an august birthday. But he really seems to have trouble getting his head around certain things and I don't always know if its a communication issue or if he also has learning difficulties.

He can solve jigsaws meant for an adult in minutes but he still can't understand simple things i.e like why his birthday is the 6th August when he is only 5 years old. We had an argument last night because he thought his birthday had to be on the 5th day of August because he is 5 years old. ??????

Hi Anoah - my dd is 6 and has a pragmatic language disorder. She is in a language unit attached to a maintsream school.

I have seen some mild improvements with my dd. I was told by the Salt children with LD do tend to make slow but steady progress. Any more questions please ask
