My dd 4 has recently been dx with developmental delay of 2 years in speech/lang/cognitive development, and social communication. She does still have some autistic traits. Over the holidays I have noticed she is getting more sociable with other children, and attempts conversation with them and does not run away and sit on her own. I have been trying my utmost to introduce her to many social situations (as the paed said i should).
On Sunday we went to a party of a girl she is friends at her MS preschool. She rushed in and immediately started to socialise with the other children (bearing in mind she has speech delay), she did not just sit on her own as she used to. When it was time for pass the parcel, she copied the other children by getting herself seated in the circle and participating, same with musical statues, I stood there
.
She told me she wanted her friend (lets call her Jane) to come and play, so I arranged for her to come today with her mum. When I opened the door, dd greeted her friend with "hi Jane" and told her that she missed her and gave her a big hug. Again I was
, as this would not be happening before. She continued to play Teletubbies with Jane, as well as on her own at times. DD is now requesting the company of other children and has become so much more social.
I am so happy, don't mean to boast but it made me proud. She still tells people to go home after a certain time, but responds more positively when I tell her that its not nice to tell people to go home and push them out the door, its easier to reason with her. Hope that this is the sign of things to come.
