Ellen... really sorry to hear that you are going through this, having SN kids stretches relationships big time. It is really hard to make time to talk. Believe me when I say I know what you are going through.

I hope a break from the mundane routine and the counciling[sp] will helpSad.

intothewest · 26/08/2011 22:35

Ellen- Know what you mean about the daily grind of life- Hope things sort themselves out for you.
BEN10- HELP my DS has just got into Ben10...

TheTimeTravellersWife · 26/08/2011 23:00

Ellen, I hope that the holiday and the counselling improve things. I read somewhere about the strains that having a child with SN puts on relationships. It is tough and partners do get neglected, especially if like me, you are the main "driver".

coff33pot · 27/08/2011 01:42

evening all too manic here today to say hello properly earlier.

Good news on the Nanny front Indigo that must be such a relief for you.

Ineedalife Glad you had a good hols in Cornwall. Now when I walk to the beach tomorrow I will think of the sea as a washing machine Grin

So sorry Ellen that you are having a rough time xx chew my ears off in a PM anytime. Heres hoping the wind down on holiday away from familiar surrounding might just what you and DH need. I think the stresses of having the house full during the school hols and everything out of the norm (saying that there is no norm in my house Grin) adds to the mountain of problems sn families have.

Congrats on your DH job acceptance Justa what an exciting time for you!

intothewest............BEN10!!!! (scary memory just popped up) good luck and may the force be with you Grin DS still likes it but more going towards Harry Potter still and his sister has just brought home Beyblade metal fusion spinning thingys today so that has caught his eye.

Home has been a mix this week. Omega 3 is kicking in nicely on DS concentration but its been a battle of wills on the playing together, sharing and losing lessons we have been having this week (I swear I am greyer than I was last week) He has also developed a new tic/stim of clearing his throat every five minutes which is driving DD bats but at least its giving his eyes a rest. Though I must say he had a fair argument with her by saying her hayfever sniffing is driving him bats too Grin

OT called, she had received the form I completed and said she was now scoring up and someone will be getting back to me with what they proposed to to next so not bad getting a call 6 days after sending. Still not got date for the psych said it would be september but been chasing the postman as wont be convinced till I got date in my hand.

Justa - I'm very excited for you - where in NZ would you be based?

Intothewest - I'm afraid that Ben10 has to be left to run his course. I think that he lived in our house for 2 years solid. Marvel and DC superheros were trying to beat Ben but they failed until now. :) Unfortunately DS appears to have regressed significantly in the TV stakes and we now have 24/7 Cartoonito with Bananas in Pyjamas, Strawberry Shortcake and Baby Looney Tunes (which I quite like!)

Coff - I hope the cough goes away quickly Grin That must be quite maddening. However good news on the OT.

Lougle - that sounds like DD1 is having a great holiday :)

Insanity - what a tough one. Are you going to send him to the school on the statement then?

Batman Live at the O2 today for us. Earplugs at the ready but it will be the highlight of my DH's (and DS's) year Grin

intothewest · 27/08/2011 11:42

BEN10 and COFF33 thanks.
I bought Dr Who yesterday as he loves watching it with his sister and it seems to be working.I would much prefer Dr. Who on loop than Ben10 Smile(I will regret that statement in a few weeks time !)

coff33pot · 27/08/2011 12:13

intothewest....I bought DS the Tardis, Latest Dr Who figs and the Inside of the Tardis layout for xmas last year oh and a remote control dialek which as it was a small cheapie I thought would be just zooming around as I was terrified of dialeks when I was young lol. But nooooooo it creeps up behind me and talks ewwww! Sadly however he played with it on xmas day and then too the wayside it went for Ben bloody 10. Even tried to do a alien vs dr who game with him but like he says "thats not what happens on the TV"

Just got him Star Wars III for PS3 by Lego. He loves it and the Harry Potts one too. DH has bought a small model spitfire bless him to put together with DS to hang in his room but DS hasnt got the patience to understand that you can only glue a couple bits at a time.

Becaroooo · 27/08/2011 14:56

Ds1 is asking for a ps3 for xmas He loves the F1 and rally driving games (and to be fair he is quite good at them!)

He has a Wii and a dsi which he plays with, but not much.

His fave things atm are his bike, scooter and his dvds.

Might get him a new scooter for xmas too.

Ds2 may get a bike...he loves his bike and scooter too Smile

coff Modelling doesnt do well here either! Ds1 hasnt got the patience and he has always disliked puzzles/lego etc, whereas ds2 loves them.

Wooden building blocks are a great hit here too

coff33pot · 27/08/2011 16:46

We got a Wii between the kids for xmas a couple years ago and DS loves it. His harry potter game is for the Wii. The PS3 we have had for 3 years now and although expensive (but did buy a package with some good free games) at the time it has been great. The interactive games like eyepet where with the camera it looks like the pet is in your front room was a winner with both DS & DD. There is also a game where you scoop the bugs with your hands and rescue them all done by camera of course and a virtual fish tank where you feed the fish by sprinkling your fingers or waving and they follow your hands is very theraputic. It helped DS when he was younger has he couldnt manage to use controllers but he felt involved more in these games with his sisters.

auntevil · 27/08/2011 17:08

ellen - hope all works it's way out. wishing you well, and a good holiday next week.
justa - where in NZ is the job. Most of my family are in that neck of the woods. Do you know many people there?

Becaroooo · 27/08/2011 19:14

ooooh those games sound great coff

5 year age gap between my 2 so not always easy to get things they can both do IYSWIM?

I am such a techno plonker...I have NO idea how the ps3 works...is it tricky to work???? (dont understand the wii at all!)

Lougle · 27/08/2011 19:45

Justa

So very pleased for you Smile

This week I came to the realization that if I want to be in the photography industry, I'm going to have to work for myself, as no one wants to hire someone who can't drive.

Anyway, I posted here about my business idea before, and I'm now starting to seek work so that I can build my portfolio, and save to get some premises and put it into action. I'll go back to uni in January and finish my film degree, as it will give me more production photos for my portfolio.

I've got some lovely friends at the charity shop I volunteer at, who have helped me with ideas about doing photography work for the charity and just being nice to me, hence me posting on Saturday night as I was in the pub with them last night!

Did my holiday shopping on Thursday too.

For those who are new, or who didn't read it the first time, this is my business idea:

I've had an idea for a while to open a studio, but I'm keen to offer a service to families who may have families who may have a family member with a disability. I'd do this by gaining training and awareness in a wide range of disabilities, and ensuring my premises had good access, as well as a chill out/sensory room for those who may need it during the course of a shoot.

coff33pot · 27/08/2011 22:29

Lollipop you will do well. It sounds a great business! I tell you what I had a long time ago now was from DD nursery it was a photo of her with also a video recording of her in a car with a farm backdrop (white screen with cartoon video moving). She was pretending to drive the car and bubbles were being blown with different light on them. They managed to get her to wave at the person recording but it looks like she is waving at you. Maybe you could do something like this for sn schools? Of course now it would go on a DVD Blush

Becaroo The PS3 is very easy to manage. I am useless on the Wii lol. Also yes top games can be VERY expensive to buy but there is a playstation store if you link the ps3 to go online too. There are loads of games for £3 or £4 arcade games and baby games. Also you can download free demos (not the whole game just a few levels) which were long enough at the time for my DS. The virtual ones are good and the fishtank I think was free. Sometimes I just put it on the TV with the lights out it is well soothing lol. I expect the eyepet would be cheaper to buy now as we have had it two years. You can buy it as a pack with an eye camera so no need to buy one separate then.

coff33pot · 27/08/2011 22:31

Oh and because you download onto the playstation itself there is no chance of disks getting scratched Grin

Becaroooo · 28/08/2011 08:25

Thanks coff very helpful

signandsmile · 28/08/2011 08:41

lollipop, forgive me if this is something you have already looked into... I had a friend and colleague who was blind (guide dog owner) and access to work paid for a driver for her, so she could visit clients etc (she was a re-hab officer, and her role involved visiting clients, and public transport was not appropriate the times and places she needed to visit)

I know this doesn't help if its just employer prejudice about you getting to and from work, but thought it might be useful if job actually involves travel between jobs...

Just a thought...

LollipopViolet · 28/08/2011 15:23

Sign, unfortunately it's simply that without a driving licence, I'm not even getting interviews :(

So I say, forget all the prejudiced people, I'm going to make a go of this business idea (got some work lined up with a major charity in my area on Friday, as a way of building a portfolio). I've got business cards on order, and I've found somewhere to get photobooks and prints etc from, if I do start doing work for clients.

signandsmile · 28/08/2011 18:25

I had a feeling it might be that, bum! Sad [cross]!

Well all steam ahead for the business!
