Dd2 (3) is seeing the pead (2nd app) on Monday.

She's had tests done, (bloods, ECG, MRI, urine,) to see whether anything genetic or physical is the cause of her deafness and lack of balance.

I phoned yesterday to check they had all the results back, (seems a bit pointless to me to go if the results were not back) didn't want to know the results, just wanted to check that they had them iykwim.
Anyway after 3 departments, I learnt that audiology had her file as they "had to do something" with them?

So now I'm half between well if there is something then they are on the ball doing something which is good. But also feeling that we are not going to like the results and there's something worse than we first thought.
Which is silly I know because I thought we were expecting the worst (inner ear being deformed).

But now I just feel a bit sick.

I have no idea what auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder is! But I'm assuming it's better than some of the alternatives?

The nerves from the ear to the brain don't work properly, here's a bit about it

It's Definitely better than some of the alternatives.

So it would explain some of your DD's difficulty understanding speech despite a better than expected hearing test result? I suppose the earlier this is picked up the better.

She has a profound loss on one side and a moderate/severe loss on the other.
But it would explain why he speech hasn't come on as much as expected in the last 8 months. She still has less that 10 words. (signs over 120words/phrases and understands about 160)
Would also explain why she has hearing days and deaf days. Audiology think it could explain why she passed her newborn screening in her better ear. (we already know why she "passed" the profound side.)
Also means that a radio aid will help her. Must bug our teacher of the deaf to get us one.

Pead wants a firm diagnosis before she starts school next September, and wants the ed psych to do an assessment. Which is a positive step forwards.

That does sound more positive then! Fab. Smile
