Feeling beaten up

Oh god what an afternoon.

It's been ages since I've out ds2 into creche at the gym (which he loves) so I decided to book him in for a session and take ds1 swimming this afternoon. (thought I'd take advantage of the fact he does half days at school). Anyway becuase it was cold and the boys needed to wear coats this meant for logistical reasons that ds1 had to get out the car and wait for ds2. He isn't used to waiting at the gym as usually we go with dh as well. Anyway he completely lost it, totally. He kept running away (straight out into the road). I had to drag him back to the car to get ds2 then charge after him when he slipped out of my grasp again. The he ran away whilst trying to book ds2 into creche. SO i dumped ds2 and ran, by now he'd squeezed through the bariers into the gym, I couldn't find my card so had to scream at the girl t let me through. got him into the ladies- where he almost lost it again because hairdryers were on. He was screaming and screaming by now, and hitting himself- which someone helpfully pointed out ("he's hitting himself you know"- no really?) by now he'd given himself a cut lip. And was trying to run into the pool fully dressed. Got into the pool-wouldn't wear his bouyancy aid, but didn't want to hold onto me either- so kept sinking (he can't remotely swim) still screaming. Eventually dragged him out of the pool and cuddled him while he calmed down. Then we did get a swim (no jacket though).

All because his routine had changed slightly. He has got som bad with routines in the last couple of weeks. I was hardly being that spontaneous. Lots of people were staring, but no-one seemed to think to grab him and stop him running into the road.

Right sod it I'm applying for a blue badge so I need higher rate mobility. One dla form coming up. Does anyone know that point of law that says autism is an exception to the IQ of 75 rule? - I think I'll have to refer to it.

Actually I'm not feeling beaten up I was beaten up- was smacked around the face several times.

When we picked up ds2 they said he was gorgeous and they'd happily keep him all day. I suggested they had ds1 all day but they didn't look very keen.

My mum has them now.

Good grief- you got a twat at the helpline, Jimjams. I thought they were getting a bit better these days but obviously not! Don't let him dissuade you though. As Davros says he's wrong as well as rude...

Dinosaur- sounds like your ds would definitely be entitled to dla. Go for it.

Jimjams - only just seen this , poor you . Do hope weekend is a bit 'better'. On a different note, think i spoke to the same w**ker at the DLA office today! My ds is 3 tomorrow , so I rang today to ask for the formd, as you know he has cp, and is on middle rate care dla.

This twat told me there was little point applying if he can walk at all, as we won't get it .. Told him to send the form anyway. BTW ds got a blue badge about 6 months ago - before he was old enough to qualify for mobility. Good luck with the forms, we can compare notes Though i think i'll leave it till after our holiday as we're off to Dubai on Wednesday.

Oh Jimjams - what a terrible day - here was me thinking year9 gits were horrible and I had had a crap day - but I am mad on your behalf at the weiner in DLA office and for the stressful time you've been through. I hope you did ask Mr Weiner his mname so you could refer him for a customer service award. I would have reminded mr weiner that my tax dollars pay his wage and that I would expect better service and then asked for the manager's name. (BTW use weiner to save me gfrom cursing...)

Hope you had a great night at Japanese class - loved it when I visited my SIL who was living there.

fio2 · 17/10/2003 20:48

jimjams we get higher rate mobility and our dd can walk

Oh B***KS Jimjam, why are some people so hurtful and stupid! I hope that things get a bit easier soon. Cyber Hugs

doormat · 17/10/2003 21:04

Jimjams do you have a local advisor on benefits ie in the CAB who will be able to help you.
Sometimes solicitors have specialist form fillers for DLA too.
Just ignore the man on the other end of the phone.

Eulalia · 18/10/2003 09:15

hi jimjams - hope things are better with you now. I can't believe that idiot at the DLA - I tried to phone them the other day and just got a voice message saying they were busy.

Will be interested to see how you get on as ds regularly runs away from me. He has totally disappeared from view in a park. Also I had to drive home recently with him unstrapped in the back throwing a massive wobbly. Not very safe for all concerned.

I would consider complaining about that guy you spoke to.

Anyway just some hugs for just now ...

oh bollards.

Went swimming again this weekend. Fine, but he will not tolerate his bouyancy jacket at all. I spent 4 weeks in the summer getting him to wear it and he had just started swimming independently with it. Now he will not let it even touch him without freaking out, so he can't swim (althgu he keeps trying and doesn't seem to understand why he is sinking).

This is why hate these big meltdowns- there's always something random that takes months to sort out (like the time he had a meltdown over a set or steps on a beach and then wouldn't go near a beach or the moors for 8 months).

Oh Dear jimjams, ds not wearing the jacket must make it a bit difficultSad I suppose armbands wont fit him

coppertop · 26/10/2003 12:44

Hi, Jimjams. Have you been able to make any headway with the DLA yet? Probably a silly question!
