DLA Tribunal tomorrow for Mobility Component ASD

Has anyone been to tribunal and been sucessfull gaining Mobility componenet? Any advise gratefully received. DS is 3 and a half and no sense of danger, dangerous behaviour, running off, escape attempts home/nursery etc. They are refusing on grounds that DS not severlely mentally impaired because he can count to 10 though he hasn't done this for ages

I think you need to demonstrate that he has no useful intelligence which can negate the IQ thing. Amberlight once posted a recent piece of research (sadly not available now, was for a limited time) which concluded that for most people, IQ is the determining factor in success but for autistic people it is different.

I'm a bit hazy on it but did win on appeal after sending that in and a small rainforest of additional evidence on the grounds of severe mental impairment.

Also do stress that your DS is not refusing to walk out of doors if it is the case that he can't be cajoled or motivated. They like to imagine your typical tantruming pre-schooler whereas for many children like ours it is the autism, a physical condition which causes the extreme reactions.
