Oh how I hate the winter

Well the dark nights and the cold weather has settled in now and I used to love the winter so much.

But having a child with SN has changed it all.

It seems to be a battle to keep my ds healthy as the cold weather brings every cold and virus flying into the house and my ds catches everything.

Anyone else feel the same or is it just me?

Hope you feel better, you were so kind to me on Friday. Thinking of you and thanks.

waterbaby · 14/10/2003 16:38

I'll miss you too sunny... come back soon!

WSM · 14/10/2003 16:40

Sorry your day is going badly Doormat I don't have SN and I catch EVERYTHING going. It drives me bonkers. Of course if I catch it then it goes around the whole household at least twice before we get rid. Here's hoping the homeopathy helps.

FWIW Sunchowder, I think a lot of the 'nasty' stuff has died down now. Things do seem to be quiet and roll along at a nice friendly pace and then every few months we seem to have a flare up which upsets the applecart for a while. Do come back when you are ready

WSM (and others, though not sure if it's appropriate for children) have you tried juicing? I used to get everything going and my cleaner told me that she had been really ill for ages and juicing changed her life. Dh bought me a cheapie juicer and I have been v healthy ever since. I juice carrots (not when pg, too much Vit A), apples, celery, cucumber, berries, in fact pretty much anything non citrus and try and drink a glass every day.

forestfly · 14/10/2003 17:08

Are you ok fio whats the matter?

lou33 · 14/10/2003 17:19

Big hugs doormat! Winter=bleurgh. I worry about ds2 being less active due to his cp, that anything he gets will lurk and mutate into something revolting and dangerous. I am lucky that he isn't sick that often (touch many many wooden objects) but it's awful when he is. Put your feet up with TC, watch Wife Swap and plot your next night out being chatted up by twenty something young men.!

doormat · 14/10/2003 17:28

That exactly how I feel Lou and thanx.

I know he will be ok but it is the whole winter thing of being more vigilant against illness with ds.

CD thanx for the juicing idea, I will ask his docs next time I see them

just want to say hiya from the germy eidsvold household Now that dd is in nursery we have had a cold/snuffles for about five weeks - and she is also getting a tooth through.

Like your little one tc - I get her in the morning and I get a lovely smile from a face caked in snot. It has progressed from horrible green to clear. She has now managed to give it to me.

Oh it is soooo hard to roar at horrible year 9 English students when one is losing their voice....

However wanted to say sorry dm - it really is hard but I also worry about not exposing her to this and having her with low immunity - kind of a catch 22.

I am looking into a company that does a vitamin/mineral mix for children with Down's syndrome and fish oils hoping that it helps.

Poor you, doormat, I know how you feel, we've all been under the weather for a few weeks now, dd2 is all bunged up and can't breathe properly. Thanks for the tips re incense burners in the house, will try that some time soon. (PS they have put off dd's gastrostomy as she has put on a bit of weight after all, they are going to wait another 3 months and see). Hope your ds feels better soon.

whymummy · 15/10/2003 10:12
