Is using the word 'retard' ever acceptable?

In an opinon piece by Fi Glover in a freebie paper that waitrose gives out (which has always been good in the past) the author refers to herself as a retard as she is very forgetful and has to frequentally make lists of important things to remember.

I found this terribly un-PC and was shocked tbh.

AIBU? (I posted here not aibu as i didnt want a bunfight in active convos)

Oh hell yes but I fear that they'd enjoy all of the extra attention. It is a small board, I'll wait for them to kick off again and post a linky.

It should be fun. Grin

Goblin Awwww thanks.

There are some scary ones on here too. Not as scary as the other board though. To be fair the AIBU board has kept me sane this weekend, I don't know how I would have got through it without venting on here.

I'll be waiting for that link you know. Grin
There are some scary people here, but very few deeply stupid ones with views that are unbelievably vile. They get squashed usually if they try their crap.

No not acceptable in any circumstances. I hear it brandished about when I pass the odd teenagers calling each other the name and I just plain recoil in digust.

They thoroughly deserve squashing. I've been on this site all weekend it has literally got me through a really hard time I am so glad that I found it. The NOTW have done me a favour, because I heard about it from a news programme where they said mumnetters were campaigning against them. If you see "ASD OCD and exes" you will see why I've been fit to be tied. I am only just coming back down to a blood pressure level that wouldn't have me hospitalised.Grin
