Private tutor needed, can you help....

Hi I am hoping you can help me I am looking to hire a private tutor to help my 10 year old son with his literacy and numeracy. I am not sure what route to take as my son who is 10 years old is under SA+, SLT services since he was 4, he has poor auditory memory, SLD and is approx 2-3 years behind his peers. So do I need to employ a tutor who specialises in SEN or can any tutor who specialises in Literacy/numeracy be able to teach my son. I apologise if this seems a stupid question but I am not sure which way to go, as I want to spend my money wisely and effectively. My son currently attends an after school SEN group run privately by ex SENCO teachers once a week, but he is saying in his own words it is babyish (they play alot of memory games and go over the same kind of work week in week out). I apporached them asking if they can do more literacy based work but they didn't seem keen to cater the group around my son, put in a nice way of course. So I want pull him out of this group and go one to one with a tutor.
Any help and advice would be appreciated, also can anyone recommend any tutors around the leicestershire area that I could contact and ask the question.

I teach children with SEN and I would recommend a tutor that has experience of working with such children. Private tutors are expensive and it's easy to get ripped off by someone who is doing very little, if any, good.

Thanks for your reply bodyeeyore, I thought as much can a SEN teacher specifically focus on one area such ad literacy, helping with formulating sentences etc, how do I find a suitable tutor in my area, are you leicstershire based. What is approx hourly rate.

Yes, a decent SEN teacher would focus on what your child actually needs.
Sadly, I am in Yorkshire so cannot help, but I would look to charge £20 an hour if you were close to me, and maybe £25 if you were over a 15 minute drive away.
I used to work through an agency called Stepping Stones a long time ago so they might be worth looking into.
Otherwise, ask on your local MumsNet area or even on the TES website.
