DS is 3 and has suspected ASD - PDA, waiting for assessment. We have just taken him out of crap preschool and transferred him to super duper outstanding rated private nursery which has a very strict routine, lots of sitting nicely, not much free play, fidgetting is barely tolerated.

Please place your predictions below for how you think it will go:

Predictions so far:

  1. He''ll love the routine and it'll sort all his problems out (lady at church)
  1. He'll go CRAZY poor little chap. It'll be the perfect place to highlight the PDA and evidence for a statement. They wont be able to manage and they'll phone me to say they cant cope and they need extra help and advice.
  1. He'll hate every moment but he'll hold it all inside and explode when I pick him up, where upon the preschool will tell me "they all do that". Then he'll spend the next week at home screaming all day every day, repeatedly asking me not to send him to preschool again. Next time I take him to preschool they will say "try not to be anxious when you drop him off"

ps no I am not a troll...... (ref to previous thread Grin )

He will love it and bring you home some beautiful pictures whilst getting his clothes caked in paint :)

Oh I hope so! And can I also have suggestions about what to do while he is there. I have no idea what to do with myself. Will have DD (11 mo old) with me. I have lost myself....

  1. They all do that Grin
Galena · 04/07/2011 10:17

He'll take to it so well that they'll promote him to teaching assistant next time he goes. Grin

And as for you, put DD down for a nap, brew some fresh coffee or tea, read the paper and MN!

Well I dropped him off and he went in looking like a three year old version of a sulky teenager but that is a good reaction for him.

I gave him a little car to hold and told him that if he didnt know what to do, then he could play with his car.

Didnt tell him we were going to the school until we got there and didnt tell him I was leaving him until I left him. He tries to get out of doing things he doesnt want to do and it took me long enough to get him dressed and into the car anyway!!

School have rung to say he is happy, talking to the other children, playing with his car (I didnt tell them about the car thing so thats a good reliable bit of info)

As the mother in law likes to say (said in raucous welsh accent) maybe "there's nothing wrong with him"!! Grin Grin Grin

Yay! Well that's a good start to the day anyway. Now, get brewing!

smugtandemfeeder · 04/07/2011 16:18

Well the correct answer was.........

He loved it!! Today at least.

Seemed very happy. No explosion when I picked him up. Normal amount of explosions and hitting DS since he got home. Talked to him and the said he was happy. Yay!

Glad he enjoyed it smug, watch this space, he will have reorganised their routine and changed it to suit himself by the end of the first monthGrin.

Chundle · 04/07/2011 19:13

Oh fab smug long may it continue :)

smugtandemfeeder · 04/07/2011 19:28

Can someone please explain to me how a child who still cries when we leave him at the childminders house (who he loves) - who displays all the traits of PDA at home with us - who loves to control things.....

.....thrives on his first day in a nursery run by routine loving control freaks?

I am totally bemused??!!!

pleased but bemused. I felt blimin stupid sitting down with the SEN at the end of the session!!

Must be the routine he loves or maybe he's saving it up for his second session...

Lenin, that is how I feel, but part of me has that 'perhaps im just going mad, being a bad parent, dont know my own son' thing going on. Our experience so far has been that things get progressively worse over time, however they have never gone this well. Its progress at least, even if he does regress.

He mad me look like a right nutter.
