i did write some time ago that his obs. class in mainstream recommended he goes to special school. after many ups and downs to the situation he has finally just started there. and we all are much happier including him.

recently obs. class was giving constant negative feedback, if at all, from 3rd week back in the term in sept. so after chat to head teacher, few phone calls to various people to voice our concerns and that i would have resorted to home ed. as last resort 'a place became available'.

he is in to his 3 rd week there. settled really well straightaway. done loads of new things, eats packed lunch there (previous battle in obs class/mainstream) and only last week, 2nd week there, teacher said he's so fine it's as if he's always been there"!

today after a.m.s hosp. appt. he will stay til end of day, 3.20 and do all day thurs and fri then all the time from now on. (he hasn't done a full day at school yet).

we really are so plaesed now and want to help the school as much as we can with parental involvment/support.

he's been swimming, messy art sessions, music sessions, soft play, light room. they've got trampoline, pool, go out in own mini bus, even if its just to tesco down the road to buy things for a cooking sesion....the list of activities go on....

just thought i would share this news with you all.

Charlie...same here for my DS2. Mainstream was a complete nightmare and I home edded for a year before finally getting the SS placement. I now have a different child. One that is soooo happy and content.
The only problem we have is the mini bus...J doesnt like the noise it makes, so on Wednesdays when they go out in it we have a few tears. Ive packed him off this morning with some earplugs in his bag so hopefully we can overcome this little blip.

soooo pleased for you.

Ds1 moved from mainstream to special school and over the next few months loads of people said how much happier and more relaxed ds1 was. (And me!)

For us mainstream and special aren't even in the same universe. And the knock on effect of moving has been that the whole family is much more relaxed.

Last year ds1 had 2 annual reveiws- one at mainstream and one a few months later at special school. Reading them through they don't even sound like the same child. The mainstream description is of a monster (really), whilst the special school painst s picture of a cheeky, complex but bright boy.

I think one big advantage of moving after its all gone pear shaped in mainstream is that you know the other side. I always make a point of recording how happy I am with the school (with other professionals and with the teacher and head etc) and I think that is appreciated.
