What's the difference between Severe learning disabilites and significant?

Hi Just about to discuss this with DS's special school , he's come out at 0.1 centile on a cognitive test and EP has written significant learning disabilites in her report , but said severe to me. I want school to change his statement to SLD and have put this in writing , ddin't get the EP letter till 3 week after the review . I am already blacklisted, I think as a mother form hell at the school.
I am thinking about his long term needs and transistion.

would the dx from the paed be who they listen to, me son did badly at the cognitive test (he didnt manage a score) but his dx from paed has significant which was explained to me as an emphasis of being more than moderate without comiting to severe which for my son would be a different special school. This likes most things probably vary from place to place

our ep would only commit to significant for our dd3 (5). She said dd3s complex needs were all contributing to her difficulties in learning so she wanted to wait until she's a bit older and could differentiate between what is a mld/sld and what else is holding her back. It's not an issue for us currently as we got the school place we wanted anyway but if this is going to cause problems do pursue this with the ep and the lea case worker as they will be responsible for amending the statement.

Hi Thanks for replies he is 10 and has ASD as well as the learning issues. The special school is for mod/ severe and ASD / EDSD - see my problem there is ssuch a wide range of abilities in his class and various behaviour issues which are not always due to disability.
Secondary at the school is a whole dofferent ball game there are kids that are doing GCSE and SATS and they move form class to class to for lesson like mainstream. DS is happy at the school but I worry about some of the kids he wil be with that are street wise and have had family issues that have led to their needs - he is so vulnarble and easily led .
I don't even know who our case worker is .
Younger DS is at a different spec school for Severe/ profound ld and TBH it's a much better school , I know DS1 would do better there but he doesn't want to move , present school says they can meet his needs . I've asked for another review in 6months . It's such a worry and a stress AAAAAAAArgh!!

that sounds tough ukm. The lea are the ones responsible for changing statements, so if you're thinking it's time for a move then your caseworker needs to be involved and it's probably better to do this yourself, school should be able to give you the details of who this is or you could try ringing the education department and asking for the sen team, definitely ask for them to be at the next meeting. Have you been in contact with parent partnership at all, they should be able to support you.
