DS has been decidedly worse this past week and I am now wondering if food/drink is having an input.

How do i go about finding out if it is?
What do you try first?

He doesn't eat a lot of rubbish but this week my mum has picked himup from school and when they get in, she has donuts, biscuits popcorn etc.

Is it sugar, caffeine in chocolate, fruit juices, what cereals are best.

How quickly wouold you see a difference?

Sorry for all the questions. I just don;t know where to start.

DS2 (autistic traits, no dx) is definitely more hyper and out of it when he's had sugar - natural as well as added sugar. White bread also seems to have an effect, as do crisps and grapes! The nutritionist at BIBIC told us that it's things that cause a sudden upsurge in blood sugarlevels. You can counteract this by giving protein with the food - ie. give them as part of the meal, not as snacks. Don't know if this helps.

I put my son on this diet which looks extremely daunting at first, but has been worth it all the way. We were seeing a cluster of behavioural and physical symptoms, none of which were serious in themselves, but taken all together added up to a very challenging little boy (he was 5 when I started).
I started by removing artificial preservatives (including nitrates, benzoates, sulphites, propionates and sorbates)and artificial colours, flavours and sweeteners (eg aspartame and saccharine). We saw a big improvement in physical symptoms within days(daytime wetting, runny nose and cough, sore and bloody nose, stomach aches and loose stools all cleared up), but it was only when we reduced the natural food chemicals as well (particularly salicylates and amines)that we got the behavioural changes.
Must dash now as boys in bath but would be glad to tell you more.
