does she have a star chair with tray

starlover · 14/11/2005 16:08

get her a booster seat and strap her in?
get her a little table and chair so that at least she is closer to the floor? and the chair could have arms which would help

sorry, but am pmsl at dd23!!!!

misdee · 14/11/2005 16:09

only just found out she has hypotonia, as yet we have nothing. mieow has chairs similar to tripp trapp which she managed well on, need to find out about them i think.

misdee get in touch with OT at Social services and ask them for an assessment

misdee · 14/11/2005 16:11

booster seats dont support her either, she would slouch and possibly tip the chair as well. little table and chairs we have but she even falls off those.

Hiya,
Hope all is well with you.
The only advise i can give is to ask your physio about a special chair, i dont know what they are called but dylan has one and it is really good as it has a large tray that you can attatch to enable things like colouring, eating etc....
It really is worth while asking, in the meantime i shall check dylan's when i get home to see if there is a name for it i will then let you know.
PS: i hope things are looking up in regards to peter, i have read the threads but so many others have said what i would say, but i am thinking of you.

someone should be calling bacj within 3 working days. as long as it isnt as long as the last fiasco, which took them 8 weeks to get peter assessed.

I was after advice on seating for Amelia a while back and was getting nowhere. I was told OT dealt with it but had been on "pushed to one side and ignored list" and was at my wits end. I referred her myself to OT, but it was SS OT, who didn't deal with paediatric seating! They did do a home visit and offered to put a handrail up the stairs and a grab bar thing in our tiny little toilet!!

Must get around to assessing her seating again...SOON,, and also her car seating!!!She is just such a little houdini!

doormat · 14/11/2005 16:41

dingle my ds is a houdini too lol

Misdee,
i will send the details of the chair to you tonight.
Also just found out that you can go through your GP for referal of NHS loan equipment if you explain the circumstances, they may well be able to help.

I feel that if I pull Amelia's car seat straps any tighter I will cut off circulation!!!

I have been pointed in the direction of "crelling harnesses" but what they are, how exactly they work, I do not know.

misdee · 14/11/2005 16:50

no idea dingle, am very new to all this.

Can you put a board or something on the floor for her so that she can sit on the floor and colour?

Saker · 14/11/2005 16:53

Ds2 has lowish muscle tone and doesn't sit brilliantly. We bought a tripp-trapp chair, only it isn't - it is an imitation but it's fine and a lot cheaper. Try looking on ebay.

In terms of the car seat, it depends how good your dd is at undressing etc. To stop Ds2 slipping his arms through the straps, I took an old t-shirt and cut the back out of it. Then put it on over the seat belt with his arms through. He can't take a t-shirt off and it stops him slipping his arms through. It has helped get used to the feel of the belts and now he doesn't usually need the t-shirt.

misdee · 14/11/2005 16:57

think they may the same chair mieow has at hers. very similar to the tripp trapp, but different make. will see what OT says, and then go looking. This SN stuff is very expensive, i can see the equipment if not available through SS or whereever, will end up costign a fair bit.

how do i stop her slumping in the car seat?

Has anyone got one of these from Argos

piffle · 14/11/2005 16:59

ikea do a good little one, as you know my dd has hypotonia and has always been great in her tripp trapp but they are expensive...

misdee · 14/11/2005 16:59

that looks like it could be ideal, at least then she can place her feet on the footrest to help balance.
