ADHD excluded from school trip

Hello world ..... first post so bear with me. In brief my DS has ADHD and is 11yrs. Changed to an independant school for last year of primary (due to start 2ndary in Sept 2011) as he was offered a place (and substancial bursery) to the end of year 11. School have (after 2 terms) changed their mind and withdrawn offer of place due to his "difficulties" and their unwillingness to provide additional support. They will not allow him to participate in end of year residential trip (5 days) dispite me offering to pay for a 1to1 to accompany him. What (if anything) can or should I do ? Cant afford legal fees as single working mum in average paid job.

"er, if they are exclusing him from a school trip because of his difficulties, then they'd be hard placed to deny they recognised he had any, surely?"

They are happy to recognise he has difficulties but appear to be under the impression it is his choice to have then or that his is in complete control of them. If they admit his difficulties stem from his condition (a recognised disability) then they legally have to make reasonable adjustments to accomodate him as he is a current student which they have not done. It is easier to say he is not allowed to attend because he has been a "very naughtly boy" than he has additional needs that we are not willing to cater for.

If it is genuine concern for his welfare surely they would have accepted my offer to fund a 1-to-1 which they have not although they are unwilling to stipulate why not.

I can only conclude it to further punish him for his previous incidents or to set an example to the other kids - either way .... not fair .... not right. x

Sorry for fractured posts - serious lack of sleep last night, but NOT this time because of DS !!! (long story involving 12 year old DNiece with broken pacemaker, 13 year old DNeph with type one diabetes, three cocker spaniels and blue light transfer this am to Royal Brompton Heart Hospital). Sometimes my problems really sink into insignificance ..... Happy days x

Update - DNiece currently on way home from hospital - crisis averted, panic over - calm and order is in the process of being restored. Smile

Big hugs Running. Sounds like you deserve a large glass of the alcoholic stuff and a foot massage...I can provide the wine but someone else will have to do your feet!
Hope all calmer now on the home front.

morning unpa1d - I did partake in a small tipple of grape based medicine last night - very theraputic. Poor neice was finally transferred back from London to original local-ish hospital last night but they then refused to discharge her poor thing so at 11pm we all gave up and went to bed!!!! The whole transfer thing has been badly effected by Queenie having her birthday bash and closing half of London !!!! They have taken more bloods this morning and we are waiting (with bated breath) for a call to say she can really come home - her mum is still with her. As for the foot rub ..... I wouldnt put anyone through the trauma of going anywhere near my feet !!!!! Blush Thank you so much for your hugs. x
